We are scheduled to tour Tulane on November 8, but it appears that all of the hotels in and near NOLA are booked from November 7 to 9 for the Jazz Festival and a few other happenings. Can anyone familiar with the area recommend a nearby suburb? Also, any recommendations regarding parking near Tulane? Many thanks.

Try Metairie, Kenner, or Algiers (this is on the Westbank of the New Orleans area but very close to Tulane). Parking around Tulane is very limited but on weekends you can usually find a spot or use the parking garage. Also you can get a parking pass from Tulane for your visit.

Jazz Fest is in April, have no idea why this particular weekend is so popular. There are 2 large conventions and a Saints home game. Can’t imagine that would fill up all the hotels! I would suggest Metairie too, it’s easier to get to Tulane from there, than than the West Bank. We’ve always miraculously found parking on St. Charles Ave or one of the side streets. Football is away that weekend so that will help!

Thanks! Turned out we found a guest house that miraculously had rooms for us.

We are visiting our daughter that weekend but made hotel reservations months ago. It’s a very busy weekend because of the LSU vs Alabama game and also the Saints have a home game. Make your restaurant reservations ASAP !

We’ve had great luck staying very close to campus in a house rental using either http://www.vrbo.com or www.airbnb.com/.
