ISU to UIUC Business

I'm currently a freshman at Illinois State University majoring in International Business and German. I want to transfer to the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign school of business my sophomore year to study finance. I currently have a 4.0 gpa, and anticipate to keep it a 4.0 through next semester. Since I am going to have less that 30 transferable credit hours by the time of my application, my grades in high school and ACT will be looked at. I really didn't do much in high school, and had some AP and honors courses with a 2.9 something GPA and a 25 ACT. I've definately stepped it up big time in college thus far. I was wondering if my high school grades would have a significant impact on me trying to apply as a transfer student to the college of business at UIUC.

The quick and dirty answer is that your HS record and ACT score will be looked at. The good news is that your 4.0 bodes well for you. Try to become involved on campus, and talk to your adviser and two profs to write recs for you!

There is a cut-off point were they stop factoring in high-school grades and ACT scores and look at your college performance. I’m not sure where it is. But its lower 60.

On their site they say business transfers are competitive and average gpa is 3.8 for transfers into business school.

From what I have read, transferring into business school at uiuc is hard.

*If you are an incoming sophomore transfer for Fall 2010 admission, we strongly recommend applying after the completion of your Fall 2009 courses, so those grades can be included in your admission review.

I am starting to worry that the unassigned business transfer section may be closed at that time due to too many applications. Should I apply now or wait?

When is the due date?

I have never heard of a college capping the number of candidates that can apply.

ugh i feel as if my high school grades are going to come back to haunt me… Has anybody heard of anyone transferring into UIUC with similar high school grades but a 4.0 college freshmen year?

Why not stay at ISU through soph year? I think that once 2 years of college are done, they won’t look at ACT or HS grades.

Can you comment on ISU a bit - do you like the classes?

UIUC is extremely numbers oriented in transfer admissions. Their business school is one of their most competitive transfer schools. If you are before the point were they stop considering your high school grades and ACT, I do not see you getting in.

You are going to have 15 credits or so for them to look at? And 30 by the time you are going to transfer in.

Have you met the required courses they list for transfers? With a 25 ACT you probably have not taken the ‘required’ math classes they recommend for business transfers yet.

Go to uiuc’s site and look around. They have a transfer page and also a separate business school transfer page with almost the same info.

I will have all the required courses for business taken by the end of this school year, including math(s). I’ll also have 40 hours of transferable credit (20 hours next semester) at the end of this school year. I feel that U of I would be a better school for me, as the classes here are dumbed down and not challenging enough.

I’m thinking of transferring into their business school from their LAS school, and that still requires a minimum for around a 3.7-3.8

does anybody know how many transfer applications the college of business receives each year?

hmm it appears that 3 students from ilstu transferred into the college of business in 2008. What are my chances with good essays???

I am not sure about the odds… but writing strong essays is a must for all transfer students.
