Help with architecture planning/admission please!

Hello,
I am currently a freshman at a private school near Chicago. I have had a strong interest in architecture for years, and definitely want to study arch in college. More about myself:
4.0 UW GPA
Treasurer for Student Council
Highest academic award that my school offers
V.P. for Engineering Club
Avid golfer, and on my school's golf team
play violin in my school's pit orchestra

I was just wondering if there is any advice as to what I could do in the coming years to develop a background in architecture. I plan to visit USC's Exploration of Architecture summer program next year.

Also--any advice on my portfolio? Any specifics on what kind of work colleges are looking for? Any examples would be greatly appreciated, but I understand if you don't feel safe showing one.

Thanks very much, and I would appreciate any help/admission chances. Thanks!
Brian Powers.

I was accepted to both the University of Texas and Texas A&M Universities’ (I chose A&M) Architecture Schools without a portfolio, but now that I am building a professional portfolio and have spoken with people in the professional world at what they are looking for in a portfolio when Hiring they just said that they want to know that you know how use the programs. such as autocad, sketchup, photoshop. I have no free hand drawings as I am a really bad drawer, but if you do have free hand stuff that is good! Just make sure your rendering are clean and something you would be proud to show off to your friends/family and that should be good enough! they aren’t expecting you to be frank Lloyd Wright, or Daniel Burnham, your applying to be a student!
