Help with Cal Grant

First time posting, sorry if anything’s wrong.

So I applied for the Fafsa and Cal Grant when I was applying for college a few years back. I got awarded the Cal Grant A, but since I went to a community college it was on reserve (awarded after I transfer). I switched majors halfway, and had to retake a couple classes (lookin at you calc 2) so I’m a bit behind schedule (transferring after 3rd year instead of 2nd).

Anyway I got a letter saying that since I’m beginning my 3rd year at my CC and haven’t transferred yet, the Cal Grant award is going to expire unless I appeal. My CC has been pretty cheap so I don’t have a need for the Grant right now, but I will after I transfer.

So my question is if I let my Grant expire, can I still apply again when I transfer to a 4 year as a junior (fall 2016) or did I fuck up badly and lose out on any aid I was going to get junior year?

You should contact them and/or send them a letter now - before you expire - letting them know that CC has taken a bit longer than anticipated, but you’re now poised to submit your transfer applications for matriculation in Fall of 2016.

I can’t imagine that you’re the first person to send a letter like this. Unless you know that your finances are the same as when you first got the CalGrant award, I would not risk letting it expire and applying again if at all possible.
