I'm looking for a school to study anthro. My interests are biological and archaeology. My list consists of: NYU, BU, UPenn, UMich, Dartmouth, WUStL, Stanford, Columbia, and Berkeley. Please help me narrow down my choices so I don't spend more in application fees than tuition.

nine places isn’t that many really and it may be worth the application fee to make sure that you get into the best quality and most appropriate place. Dartmouth, Penn, Columbia Stanford and Wash U. are all pretty big reaches, I would say, if your SAT (math + verbal) is under 1450. If so, you could eliminate one. But then you might want another match. Michigan has rolling admissions, so if you get in there you could drop BU and maybe NYU if you like it less. Have you considered U. Chicago? If you apply EA there and get in you could eliminate places you like less.

I have heard Chicago is really lacking in biological anthropology.
