So I kind of forgot that class registration begins today.

I started doing it, but the only problem is apparently there are no regular WTE classes open for Stern students. They all are either "closed" (does that mean no more spots?) or a special type. There is one regular one open, with Prof. Bruce Bromley, but that requires department approval. So what do I do? Will there be more WTE classes opening up or registration later or am I just doing something wrong?

Thanks in advance.

Well, try to communicate via email with Prof. Bruce Bromley. In the meantime, you will have to sign up for alternative classes (do you have Texts & Ideas requirement for Stern) and put yourself on the waitlist for WTE class(es).

My son (CAS student) was locked out early from WTE class even though he was in the first registration session, but I think his advisor keyed in his choices too slowly, so he ended up taking T & I in the fall and WTE in the spring. He got himself on WTE waitlist but was not able to get off the WL in the fall (2010).

The only thing is it says I must take a WTE course this fall. That’s what I’m confused about. What do you mean by “registration sessions” btw? Are more spots going to open up, do they have certain sessions for some students in blocks, or do they do something else?

Wait, registration begins today? I thought it was Tuesday.

I thought it began today 0.o

Also, if I can’t get into calc 1 right now (have to take the placement class) do I still sign up for it? I got a 740 on math, so I can’t just go straight to it.

"Dear Incoming Transfer Student,

Are you ready to register on Tuesday at 12pm EST?"

I’m not a transfer so maybe its different for me? “we hope a smooth registration for you on monday”

You both are also in different schools (Tisch and Stern), besides one being an incoming freshman and the other a transfer student. Each school has its own registration procedures and dates.

collegefun,

You are right. The link does say that Stern students MUST take WTE in Fall 2011. The best thing is to call Stern advisement tomorrow AM to find out how you can fulfill this requirement with all but one WTE class closed. If they can not get you into a WTE section, they will have to allow you to take an alternative required course in lieu of WTE and leave WTE for spring 2011.

Sorry, registration sessionS are for CAS students only. They have registration during various orientation sessions scheduled through June and July (primarily except for international students and students who cannot make orientation sessions in June and July).

Try this link to reach a Stern advisor or call the front desk to direct you to an advisor.

Thanks for the advice evolving, I’m probably going to contact them tomorrow for WTE.

I asked this above, but does anyone know whether I register for Calc 1 or I register for the prerequisite to that till I take the placement exam?

Thanks again for your help. :)

I asked NYU anyway on the Math issue because I was emailing guidance about WTE anyway.

For anyone reading this, I never realized that classes would get filled up so fast (I took a very passive approach to this–i.e. it’ll get done, etc…,)! Lesson learned. I’m happy to say that I got into one of the classes I wanted though.

I’m setting my alarm clock for bright and early: 9 AM.

collegefun,

You are not alone. Though we purposely set S up for the first orientation session at CAS and I had advised him to keep up with changes in the online schedule for incoming freshmen (CAS), he got shut out of two core courses the first morning of registration for CAS students last summer. So, yes, you have to “jump” when a time is given to you for registering, signing up for dorms, etc. at NYU.
