Hi. I'm an incoming freshman and I had a question about double majors for anyone that has some experience.
First of all, if i'm majoring in finance at stern can i double major in something like math and computer science at cas?
second, is double majoring a huge time commitment? or is it worth it?
also do you have any recommendations for classes i should take?

thanks

I can’t speak for Stern, but I can tell you about double-majoring. Depending on which major you do, and how many AP credits and cross-listed classes you managed to have, it can be quite easy. I majored in politics (8 classes), majored with honors in history (9 classes), minored in French (4 classes), and was one class shy of another minor in Urban Design & Architecture Studies (3 classes). I came in with 16 AP credits (4 classes), four of which counted towards the history major, and my World Cultures class also counted towards the history major. I had enough room in my schedule to finish my MAP requirements and take several electives, including a philosophy class, a photography class, and violin lessons.

Mind, my situation was easy. In other instances, you might need all of your available credits over the four years to finish your two majors and any MAP requirements. If you are serious about double-majoring, check what each major requires, check if any courses are cross-listed either between those majors or to MAP courses, and try to plan accordingly. It’s definitely doable, but it takes some planning to ensure that you get everything done on time.
