I’m a sophomore right now and I’m a little worried about my extra curriculars. I’m interested in going into nursing, but my ECs don’t really reflect that. I’m a member of MUN and She’s the first (service club that helps girls from poor countries receive education), in the wind ensemble (played clarinet since 5th grade), and am very passionate about art. I think art may be my strongest EC. I’ve been going to art classes since I was 7 and have won silver medal in Scholastic Art and Writing. Although I don’t intend to go into art in college, I know I’ll still enjoy drawing. However, I currently don’t have anything related to nursing. I applied to volunteer at a local hospital, but their positions are already full and there’s no other hospitals nearby. I’m planning to apply to volunteer at a rehabilitation center in the summer, but I don’t know what else to do. I thought about maybe shadowing a nurse but I don’t know how I would do that. Does anyone have any suggestions on any other ECs I could do that relate to nursing? Or how I could tie my current ECs to my intended major? Thanks a bunch:)
I don’t really think it matters what ECs you have as long as you show commitment to them. If you want to tie it to nursing maybe sell your art online and donate all funds to some charity based on helping sick people in less developed countries.
ECs are a reflection of a person, not of the person’s career choice. Pursue what you are passionate about and you’ll find yourself to be more successful in those activities. You can shadow or volunteer at a hospital, but MUN, service, art, and music are all fragments of you and shows you have a wide range of interests. Don’t base your high school ECs solely on nursing.

For direct admit nursing programs I would imagine that they would like for you to have done some volunteering to know for yourself if you like working in a medical setting. So work at the rehabilitation center over the summer and then also ask when you should apply for a volunteer position at the hospital for junior year.
Other than that, you are fine with your ECs.
alright, thanks so much to everyone that replied!
