Help with Extra Curricular activities!

Hey guys, I wasnt really sure where to post this. I am a rising senior and looking back, I feel that my ECs are a little too "scattered" and lack focus. Please tell me your opinion on my EC's and how I can tie up everything next year. Thanks.

Volunteer at Library (9-11.... I love to read/write in my free time)
Will be a sports writer for Bleacher Report (has millions of views each month) next month (11-12 I love to write and love sports)
Volunteering at a Hospital (11-12... I would like to be a doctor-- specifically a cardiologist)
created a website called: yourheartdisease.org (11-12 talks about the heart and heart disease.... I would like to be a cardiologist)
Red Cross Club member (10, I would like to go into the medical field)
Helped out at a Basketball Summer Camp (10-11 Love sports)
Am going to be a cofounder of the cricket club (the sport) and the president of it (love sports)
Student Council Student Ambassador (9... leadership)
NSHSS student Ambassador(11-12... leadership)
Will be a tenn council member next year (12, leadership)
Link Crew (12... help out freshman at school... leadership)
Spanish Club (10)
NHS (11-12)
Model UN (10)
Yeah, that is pretty much everything. As a side note, the reason why I could not continue a lot of these clubs was because I moved in the middle of sophomore year... Also, many people, again, tell me that I really lack focus and that colleges will not like this. What do u think? Any suggestions for other activities for this summer or next year? The way I see it is that I am a guy that wants to be a doctor, loves to read and write in free time, loves sports, and loves to lead by example... but idk.... Thanks!

bump…really need some help!

I think your EC’s are pretty focused. It shows that you’re well rounded, yet you have a passion in medicine.

You love writing right? So you can say, “English” is your strong subject. Every student needs a super-strong academic field.

Sports show that you are aware of your own health and well-being. A good doctor has got to keep himself healthy before helping others!!

Model UN is a little off though…
Spanish Club is unecessary in my opinion

How exactly did you become a writer for Bleacher Report?

@loseyourself- you need to apply for a job. It is really tough to get it. I am gonna apply next month.
@DecemberBug- So, do u think that I should take Model UN and Spanish Club off of any applications or just keep them?

So you don’t yet know if you’ll get the job?

My $.02 = Cash the cricket club and start up a rugby club. It will be more fun, less boring to spectators, and as a future MD, a rugby club is a much better oppportunity to build your practice.

@HarryJones- No, I am not sure if I will get it due to the fact that I have not applied yet. But, I am fairly sure I’ll get in with my love for sports and my love for writing. Besides, you can keep applying every month until you get a shot at writing for them (As a side note, there is a 20% acceptance rate)

bump… any other views on my ECs?

I think they’re pretty good overall. But, what exactly does the website DO? What causes does it advance, what purpose does it serve, how’s the traffic? Anyone with a little pocketmoney can make a website, but what matters, and I think what adcoms care about, is what you did with it.

@ Dramamine- I am trying to get money for donations. Also, I am trying to spread awareness about different Heart Diseases. Any suggestions for “doing something special” with my website?

bump…

Maybe you can ask a cardiologist to post weekly articles pertaining to heart disease/make it like a blog, post stories about survivors of the heart diseases, create a fundraiser to help get screenings for those who can’t afford it, etc.

Drop Spanish…seems like a waste of time if you take Spanish as a foreign langauge at school. Model UN seems like a waste of time as well…after all, you don’t actually do anything LOL it’s “model” UN

hmmmmm ok…
