Help with Finding Schools to Apply to

Hi, I am high school student from NJ trying to find some schools to eventually apply to next year

I’m thinking of schools with the following:

  • Large: 10,000+ students
  • Pretty Selective
  • Warm Weather
  • Good nightlife
  • High Level Division I Sports

Stats:
1250 SAT
3.98 GPA
5 Dual Enrollment Courses
National Honors Society
Varsity Track, Basketball, and Golf

I love Clemson, but I don’t know if my stats are good enough to get in so I need some more options
If anyone can give some schools that would fit the description that would be awesome. Thank you in advance!

@vex2019 your stats look pretty good just try to increase your SAT. Perhaps even take the ACT as some students prefer that test. My son just applied to Clemson from NJ also. Good Luck!

ok thank you for the reply. do you mind sharing your sons stats?

Look into Ole Miss, Auburn, Univ of Alabama, Florida State and James Madison

Your SAT would probably need to be a little higher but USC might be a good fit.

@Larkin29 Southern California or South Carolina?

Multiple schools fit your criteria. Do you prefer southeast warm weather and culture or west/southwest?

@Otterma I’ve been to both regions and I like both

It’s great that you’re willing to consider both regions. To answer the USC question: both schools sound like fits…but I agree that you might want to get your SAT up for Southern Cal. Arizona State might be worth considering too. Your SAT is just a bit above their average though so it might be worth trying to raise it.

Is your family able and willing to pay out of state costs or will you need financial aid? People (including me) are mentioning many public universities where out of state students won’t receive meaningful amounts of financial aid.

University of South Carolina would be a good fit. Get your SAT up a bit and you could get some merit aid.

@Otterma My parents are willing to pay most of the tuition and ill take out some loans for myself to pay off in the future i have looked into ASU and it seems like UA is the better of the two in Arizona but i could be wrong

@chb088 wha do you think is a good number to get some merit aid at S Carolina

My S18 got a 1350 and got at least $39k over 4 years, offer not yet final so could get more. It’s a very pretty campus.

@chb088 wow that is awesome congrats Im gonna try in march to break 1300 to open some new doors

@vex2019 sorry, I just saw this reply. My son has a 1420 SAT, 4 AP, 11 Dual Enrollment classes (Clemson takes them all), 3.87 GPA, top 20% of class. He is in multiple honor societies and also applied to their honors college. He applied for their business school and they told him he is an outstanding candidate and he should be hearing from them after the winter break. We are from Bergen County, whatabout you?

@mweb136 those are some really good scores Im in monmouth/ocean county

@vex2019 thank you. I will let you know when we hear from them. If you have any other questions feel free to ask. He also got in to University of South Carolina and University of Alabama and their honors college. Great merit offered too, but Clemson is his first choice.
