Help with ideas for this essay please?

I know these essays are personal, but I'm not too sure what to write about. If you could give me some ideas, that would be great. I'll probably draw some other ideas from what you give me. Thanks!!

Choose an issue of importance to you—the issue could be personal, school related, local, political, or international in scope—and write an essay in which you explain the significance of that issue to yourself, your family, your community, or your generation.

would racism be a good topic??
help please

thanks

No, unless you have had a unique, life-altering experience with it. Evaluate yourself and your life experiences. Has there been anything that has particularly changed you? Is there anything that makes you mad? You could write about an illness, challenge, injustice, etc, but do so in a way that could never be repeated. I once read an Ad Couns say that "If we can put any other student's name in your place, it's not original." Choose something that will make them remember you; "Oh, you're the one who wrote the interesting essay about how tuna sandwiches changed your life", etc.... Write about something you care about, be honest, and speak from the heart and your essay will be a winner.

^thank you so much for the response
but the thing is.. if I write about .. a challenge, I don't really see how that's an issue. Isn't issue like.. a problem?
like, say, a death in a family.. that isn't an issue, right? I'm just kinda lost though .. just can't think of anything
I appreciate your helping me, though =]

you can make a challenge into an issue of importance. I work for planned parenthood so I wrote my essay "(on the same topic) about sexual education for teens.

Think about something you are passionate about. The best advice is the one thats everywhere-- it's not what you write about it's how you write about it.

You can certainly tie in a personal experience to an "issue." I, for example, wrote of an experience when my dad and I Heimliched my grandfather when he was choking. He had Alzheimer's, so we could have let him die, but we "chose life." Though I chose not to describe the "pro life" stance, I certainly could have done so. I'd be happy trade essays with you if you want to get an example for your writing(of course, without plagiarism)

^oh would you send it to me? I'd reallly appreciate it.
don't worry I won't plagiarize. My school has an honor code, so I wouldn't do that. =]
