Hi. My D14 and I are going to be visiting Indiana University on Wed. August 28th. According to the admissions office, IU starts classes on 8/26 and there are NO tours available that week. :(. We're coming in late Aug. because she doesn't go back to HS until after Labor Day.

My daughter has found that guided college tours are far more valuable than self-directed tours. We're hoping someone who attends IU and knows his/her upcoming class schedule now will be willing to give us up to an hour of time that day (preferably before noon, but we have some flexibility) for a mini-tour or question/answer session if a tour is too much. We'd even buy you lunch as a bribe...

A little bit of background:
We're coming from WA and don't know anyone who attends IU.
D hopes to major in marketing with a fashion and/or Spanish minor.
She's thinking about going Greek.
D has lots of relatives north of Chicago (I grew up in the Chicago suburbs).

Thanks for your consideration. Please feel free to PM me for additional info.

We also visited last year on the first week of school at IU, which is why I thought it was strange that they had no tours this year.

By the way, we had a successful visit last August. We leave with DD this Friday and check her into her temporary dorm on Saturday for the Intensive Freshman Seminar (IFS), then come back 2 weeks later to move her into her permanent dorm to start her freshman year at IU.

Since you have relatives in the Chicago suburbs, ask them if they know any IU students. If they know any college age people, chances are pretty good they will know at least one. If I didn’t need to work that day I would show you around, but I’m not a student.

stbem… Thanks so much Wow~ When I called admissions last week, they said no tours the first week of school. You’re correct! Tours are available on the 28th, so we’ll sign up for them. Such a relief… Thank you.

Another great idea…I’ll also check with cousins who live in the Northshore of Chicago. I’m certain they know a zillion kids who go to IU (given how hard it is to get into UW and U of I now).

Visiting four schools with D in August with Greek systems. I reached out to the sororities I and G’mas were in (not IU). IU sorority I was in responded right away with a nice email and invite to visit while we’re on campus. Bonus points for IU!
