Help with my ohio State essay

<p>i'm hispanic 3.1 GPA, 1860 SAT</p>

<p>People always told me that I was going to finish last. Some Hispanic kid from Compton can’t commute 20 miles to school and be on time. I proved them wrong. I want to go to Ohio State so I do not have to travel 20 miles to go to school. At Ohio State classes are 5-10 from the residence halls. I can focus instead of rush.</p>

<p>People told me that I was too weak, too small. I joined my school’s football team and received a coaches’ award. Ohio State is one of the best schools in the nation for engineering. I want to go to Ohio State to channel my strength and dedication that I showed in football, toward becoming a computer engineer.</p>

<p>People told me I should always have a chip on my shoulder because of where I’m from, or because I was assaulted in my home once but now I am in my school’s Yearbook team and I always walk with a smile on my face through my dilapidated school. I want to walk through the Oval with a smile on my face and be proud that I am a Buckeye.</p>

<p>People told me I could not possibly balance all the things in my life. By the time I graduate I will have over 400 community service hours in school and out, been in football for two years, and co-manage a club. At Ohio State I can do much more.</p>

<p>People told me that I was unintelligent. I responded by taking 3 AP’s in high-school and taking 7 classes this year when others took 5. I want to go to Ohio State to show my detractors that I will not let them get to me. I will succeed and walk through the ‘Shoe and get my diploma.</p>

<p>Are you applying for the honos college or anything? OSU is untracompetetive for OOS I hear. They don’t throw around a lot of money.</p>

<p>Your essay was good in the sense that you focused on overcoming adversity, but it was extremely vague. You could (with a little tweaking) insert any school’s name and mascot and it would work. Try to make it more personal for the adcoms.<br>
Btw, OSU is huge. You will likely have a walk longer than ten minutes to classes. </p>
