This may sound like a stupid question, but I'm international and this is something new to me. I am so confused about letters of recommendation. Do your teachers just give them to you and you send them in an envelope? Are you allowed to read them before they are sent in or is it one of those things where the teacher seals and signs the envelope so you can't read it? Can you just like photocopy one and send it to more than one school? Help would be appreciated! Thank you!

... bump?

I believe the teacher usually writes it and puts it in an envelope. Usually, you can't read them unless you open them. I guess you could ask for a photocopy of the rec for yourself so you can read it.

Hi,

you hand your teachers a form (Usually found on www.commonapp.org... but check with the school you're applying to on the official website)

Along with the form (which should be pretty sstraight forward and simple), attach a copy of your Resume.

I'm not sure if you have to give them the envelopes b/c all my teachers allowed me to read mine.

I'd reccomend just hand them the forms in a folder
if they dont want you to read it, they'll seal it up themselves

And yup, you can just photocopy it and send it to more than one school.. as long as they all use the common application.
and if your teachers do let you read the rec, make sure you seal it up

The usual process is that you sign the statement on the application that says that you give up your right to read your LORs, the teacher writes and copies the LOR and sends it directly to the schools (or gives it to you in a sealed envelopes) without you reading it.

Okay thank you soo much this was very helpful! Did most of you read your recs before they were sent in?

I handed my Common App form to my teacher and she gave me the recommendation a week later. She allowed me to read and make photocopies and I actually corrected her. It all depends on the relationship you have with the teacher. Some may allow you to read it, some may not. As for my teachers, they didn't bother making 10 copies for me , so they told me to make copies myself because they trusted me.
