My guidance counselor called me today to let me know there was a problem with my schedule. She was having trouble making my orginial course requests fit in my schedule (I wanted pyschology, 6 APs, and gym). she had to take out AP Physics E&M and psychology. this left me with three empty blocks on my schedule (we do block schedule at my school. you have 4 90 min classes a day. most classes are 2 marking periods, some APs are 3, and electives are 1).
so i was forced to take environmental science (not AP or anything, just some elective type of course) for one of the blocks. my other two are a late arrival 1st marking period 1st block and a early release 4th marking period 4th block. technically they are study halls, but seniors dont have to be at school for them. my question is whether or not these 'study halls' will be frowned upon by competitive colleges. im not looking at HYPS, but Georgetown is my number one choice and its pretty selective. should i fill these study halls with other elective type classes (i could have sociology instead of that early release) or just let it go? i just want to make sure colleges still think i have a rigorous enough course load.

If you have 5 AP’s, an elective, gym, that’s pretty rigorous. I don’t think more electives will make a big impact and you can use them to sleep in and breathe, or get some extra work done.

Are you counting physics c as two aps? Because it is not really two aps even though it is hard. Sorry but my caps lock key is broken lol

also fluff aps such as environmental society and physiology aren’t impressive to colleges.

You’re fine.

@SheepGetKilled - no, the APs i am taking are Lit, Physics (Newton), Calc BC, Macro, and French. Physics E&M was the 6th one i was taking, but i guess what your saying is that it would be 6 either way because they both go together. i guess your right about that lol. and the environmental science class is not an AP, not even a “fluff AP”. but thats my only option. and the pyschology class i mentioned wasnt AP either, just an elective.

@ everyone : thanks for your imputs! i guess ill just keep my schedule how it is? its just hard coming on this site and seeing people taking like 8 APs and selfstudying 4 more on top of that.

5 APs is impressive. I guess if you were to take none/1-2 then it might affect chances a little bit.

I think you’re fine, but if you’re concerned you can also explain in the addition information section of your app that you had more classes planned for senior year but your schedule got messed up. That’s what I’m doing to explain why I’m not taking a science my senior year, and I’m hoping it’ll help.

@smwhtslghtlydzed - oh okay thank you i never thought of that! (:
