Im a senior in high school and only applied to UCs because those were the only colleges i actually wanted to go to. Unfortunately i didnt get in anywhere which surprised me because i felt i would get into at least one campus. I had about a 3.6 -.7 unweighted gpa and 4.0 + weighted. My SAT was 2190. However, i didnt have many extracurriculars and there was a decline in my grades over the years. I also applied for Computer Science in every UC even though i decided after applying that i would rather do Poli Sci in college. This was because this last year i joined a class called We The People which is a competition civics course. In my appeal letters which im planning on submitting to UCLA, SD, Davis and Berkeley i wanted to talk about both why i had difficulties in high school and also my change in major. I know not every campus takes change in major as significant new information, but i thought pairing that with more information on We The People which was a very difficult and time consuming class would help. In terms of why my grades dropped it was because my family moved from LA to Fremont (near SF) due to complicated issues. My entire life i've had an abusive father and in 9th grade when my brother and sister moved away (my brother moved to Fremont) he got even worse and started hitting my mother. Instead of seeking help my mom decided it was best that we move and live with my brother who could actually control my dad. After moving i became seriously depressed, and at the moment im in counseling. It was difficult to deal with this stuff during high school and i feel like it prevented me from applying my full attention to school. When i first applied i didnt feel comfortable discussing it even though looking back on it i probably should have. I don't know if this is considered new information or if its worth appealing based on this. I feel l
Also for Berkeley's appeal it says postmarked by the 13th, is it ok to submit it late? One of my grades on my transcript is wrong (the teacher was supposed to change it) and i can get it fixed by next week and i can also get another letter of recomendation by next week.

First, did you apply to UCR and UCM? Are you in the top 9% of your class or in-state? Are you just appealing UCB?

I think it’s worth a shot, but show what initiatives you took to overcame your adversity. You have a great SAT score, but grade trend and EC’s are still very important. Berkeley’s appeal is due by May 1st. Good luck!

I agree, it’s worth a shot. But poll sci is a pretty hard major to get into at UCLA and UCB too. Can you pick an easier major? I would recommend a foreign language. One last thing/ make sure the appeal letter isn’t longer than a single page.

dude you have a good shot
i am appealing too
I can read your appeal if you want and maybe you can read mine?
@gurkira

im not sure about top 9% of class but i am top 9% of state. I did not apply to UCR, UCM and UCSB i applied to UCI UCSC UCD UCSD UCLA and UCB. Also i thought the may 1st deadline was for transfer students but for freshman it was apr 13. Also would changing my major to something like a foreign language look bad because i wouldnt have as much of a reason to change it to that. I could apply for something in art because although i didnt take classes in high school it is one of my extracurriculars. Or would something else in history work as well?

Oh and although my grade trend was not that great, i did take many very difficult classes such as AP Calculus in Sophomore year, AP physics C and linear algebra (linear at community college afterschool) in junior year with APUSH and APENG, this year i took multivariable. One of the other changes im adding to my appeal is a bump in my physics grade from a C to a B for the EM semseter

the appeal deadline is the apr 15
