Hi, I applied as a math major last november to berkeley, ucla, and ucsd. I already have all the math prereqs done(calc 1-3, linear algebra, differential eqns) but this semester I'm taking a C++ class to fulfill ucla's math major prereq. Im thinking of dropping C++. My question is will dropping C++ affect my admission decision at berkeley and ucsd because they don't require the C++ class. Also will it affect the decision at ucla because i know math is not very impacted(im missing 3 prereq if i was to drop C++).

Try not to drop it. They are very strict on prereqs. More than 2 prereqs missing is autoreject at UCLA I believe. I don’t know about Berkeley or UCSD but it’s not a good thing to drop a big class during spring semester.

I wanna say you’ll be okay, because math isn’t impacted and because C++ is not offered at a lot of community colleges.
What other pre-reqs are you missing? Physics?
?

Yes, I am missing the physics prereq. Do you think missing physics along with C++ would get me automatically rejected from ucla or will they be lenient because math is not a very popular major.

when in doubt, call or email them. personally, i don’t think it’ll affect your admission because i think they are a little more lenient with completing prereqs if your major isn’t impacted, but you should definitely contact an admissions officer to make sure.

does anyone know ucla’s contact email so i email them about this?

better off phoning them.
