Hi everyone, last semester I applied to both Berkeley and UCLA as a pure mathematics major. This semester I am taking a computer programming class that I don't really feel like taking now. For Berkeley I have finished all prerequsites but for UCLA i believe I am missing 3 prerequites, mainly a physics class, C++ computer programming and a science class. I was wondering if it would be wise to drop the C++ computer programming class I am taking now. Would it affect admission decisions to Berkeley and UCLA? I have already completed the whole calculus series, differential equations and linear algebra. thanks.

After GPA, prerequisites are the #2 thing UC’s look at when determining admissions decisions for transfer students. So, yes, not taking a class that is a pre-req does put you at a disatvantage. You are getting ready to transfer, expect there to be a lot of classes “you don’t feel like taking” in the future. I would say stick it out, work hard, don’t be so lazy, get the pre-req done and give yourself a better chance at UCLA.
