Help!

i like psu ! im just scared that psu won't be much respected in a few years and will constantly go down. do you guys believe it will still be an elite university few years from now? i want to be able to look back at my alma mater 20 years from now and still see them up there

Considering the perception is already getting back to where it used to be, what makes you say all of this?

well i had no idea it was. I was wondering if the school is improving? will the school drop in rankings? I have offers from other schools such as OSU. PSU is deff my favorite but will it be an elite university 20 years down the road? will the university improve and all that stuff.

What makes you think Penn State will be recognized as “elite” 20 years from now? No public university will evolve to be “elite” in just 20 years (besides those already recognized as such - Berkeley, Virginia, Michigan…).

Thought you said Penn State academics are “top notch” just yesterday. Funny that now you question its prestige lol.

Penn State’s academic reputation was never harmed and will always be perceived as strong. PSU is still number one for recruiters

by elite i mean will it stay at the us news top 50. And will the school regain that football team? i mean they had a 8-2 season in which they beat wisconsin, who won the rose bowl. if it weren’t for the sanctions maybe they would’ve played for it

Why do you assume USNews will exist in 20 years? That more people won’t just laugh when you quote a USNews “ranking” in a conversation?

Why do you assume that the Internet revolution won’t have changed more colleges in more significant ways? That athletics will still be part of universities instead of professional athletic teams?

Your lack of perspective and your assumptions are problematic.

alright just to float your boat, lets just assume every issue you mentioned stays the same. what about now?

Ok, so please explain your post on the thread “Penn State = Loser School”

“LMAO! Illinois is crap! PSU has an awesome mixture of everyone: jocks, nerds, geniuses, awesome people! PSU sports are the best and our academics are top notch as well. top ten engineering program, awesome natural sciences, nice business school. I never seen an Illinois grad as prideful of there alma mater as a Penn State grad. Hence, this man who is still upset he didnt get into PSU and had to spend his time at Illinois. In summation, WE ARE PENN STATE!”

?

Come on Lets just answer the OP’s question…I believe it will remain where it is…yes top 50 in USNWR. The scandal won’t affect the academic side of Penn State or at least thats what I believe.

thank you! i read something that made me reconsider my plans on attending. plain and simple. this is a very stressful time and i would appreciate it if people like warrior whatever would simply just try to answer my question.

Based on your quoted reply that warrior posted, it does not seem to be a stressful time for you. In fact, it seems you’re quite sold on Penn State as being elite and the school of your dreams.

that is from yesterday. i read some things and began thinking and i am reconsidering my decision

You do not seem interested in actual academics as of today for your intended major but more about its overall prestige 20 years from now. You should learn for the sole purpose of developing your passions rather than to get admission to a prestigious university. Think about this. Probably any school in TOP15 for your major is going to be challenging and prepare you for every graduate school or job as long as you seek opportunities during your education and take advantage of them. Penn State offers great opportunities for undergrads like research, honors program, career fairs and graduate courses so if you really are passionate about your major, you are sure to become standout in it with Penn State’s help if you honestly want it.

Btw I am a high school senior who also has other offers, e.g. from UIUC and UF but after appropriate research I decided that PSU is a right fit for me and I hope you also arrive at this conclusion.

Listen, I’m not trying to pick a fight here…

For the Record, I agree with XtremePower and RaysGatorsFan. The School is doing well. The reason I am so irritated by the original post, is that it sounded like it was based on all the negative media attention, and not any real research. Considering you keep saying you read some things the other day that changed your mind, would you help us understand how they changed your opinion so drastically in a couple days (i.e. share a link)?

As a current Penn State student, our school is doing very well and is only getting better. I truly do not feel people will even care years from now - face it, some other scandal at some other school will take the attention off of us. Not to mention, the academics were never called into question. This school has unlimited opportunities, and as an honors student here I’ll just say that the Schreyer Honors College is one of the most prestigious honors programs in the country - and that hasn’t changed.
