help!!

Hi CC. My name is Khalid and I'm 16 years old. Actually I'm from somalia but I live in UAE right now. And I wish if I could have chance to study in U.S. I'm going to be senior student next year. And I really started to search about financial aids & full ride scholarships and the universities & the colleges that offer it. But I didn't found alot of information. And my family fianacial situation is not that good to afford all the tuition & fees of the U.S education. And looking to study Civil Engineering in U.S. As well I'm very talented in soccer & also in my education. So I think that will kinda help when I enroll to the Universities or colleges. So if anyone has advice or recommendations please share it?

Look into the schools listed here - some of these scholarships are available to international students:

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/financial-aid-scholarships/1348012-automatic-full-tuition-full-ride-scholarships-8.html#post16145676</a></p>

Thank you and I appreciate it. But I want more universities that offer full ride scholarships ?

And what is the first thing I should do to get a financial aid?

Khalid13, not to be glib, but we’d all like more universities that offer full rides. The problem is that very few schools are wealthy enough to offer them, and even fewer will make such an offer to internationals.

What is the first thing you can do to get some? Be the best student you can be. Have top grades and test scores.

okaay. Does the full ride scholarships cover all my tuitions & fees and even my visa?

And can you give me some of those Universities that offer full ride scholarships?. Not those who dodgersmom posted it. Cuz I didn’t find much universities that’s appropriate with me

No, a full ride does not cover your visa. And it’s also not going to cover airfare, books, required health insurance, or personal expenses.

And if you don’t like the schools I pointed you to, why don’t you head over to the International Students forum and see what they have to say on the topic. Read through the forum before starting your own thread . . . you’re certainly not the first foreign student to ask this question!

The list dodgersmom gave you is pretty complete. People who need fullride scholarships are grateful to get them and make do. When you need lots of financial help, you don’t usually get to go to your ideal schools (just ask my daughters!).

Actually I didn’t know about the Int’l Student forum cuz I’m new in the website. And you’re right dodgersmom and I will start now. But when I have readed your list I’ve found some full ride scholarship that covers books & board and even provides students with laptops. And if you have any idea about the costs of health insurance & airfare & visa. Please tell me I will be so greatfull. Also I’m sorry if you thought that I’m disrespecting you when I said (I didn’t find much universities & colleges that are appropriate with me in your list) . KKmama basically I don’t have any ideal schools. And I wan’t to study in any University in U.S that contains my major (Civil Engineering), and also offers a great scholarships & also have soccer team.

Couldn’t even begin to tell you the cost of airfare, etc. Health insurance could be as little as $1,000/year, or as high as $2,500 (or more). Bottom line is that you needs to have funds sufficient to pay all those costs, plus your personal expenses for the year. You won’t be able to get a visa unless you can show that you have funds sufficient to take care of yourself for a year. And, yes, getting your room/board covered by the university will help, but you’re going to need additional funds.

See what information they have over in the international forum about scholarships or grants that might be available to students from your country. Honestly, without that, it will be difficult. Most American students get summer jobs (and jobs during the school year, too) to help pay their way. As a student on a student visa, you won’t be able to do that . . . so you really need to be sure you’ll have enough money to pay any personal expenses you have during the year.

As for an abundant choice of schools, I can’t promise you that . . . but, remember, you only need one. :)

Good luck!

If there are any full ride scholarships offered to int’ls, then very likely the schools are lowish ranked, require VERY HIGH stats, or are competitive scholarships.

As for estimating the remaining costs if you got a full ride scholarship, it’s difficult to estimate, but a ballpark figure might be: 2000 for travel, 3000 personal expenses, 2000 for insurance, 1000 for books, 1000 for misc.

Okaay I’ve understood that point. And what I’ve got from reading international forum is I need to go to nearest EducationUSA center here in UAE to get the best information and I will. But what about the athletic scholarships is just for U.S citizen. Or is it also for Int’l students?

Soccer isn’t a big sport here. NCAA (governing body of college athletics) tells universities how many scholarships they may have. In sports like soccer, most coaches try to recruit more students with their limited funds by offering partial scholarships to several students rather than full scholarships to one. You’d have a better shot at big money if you played American football or Men’s Basketball.

Men’s Soccer isn’t a “full head” sport here, so no full scholarships for that. Plus, even if it did, it wouldn’t cover travel and personal expenses.

How much will your parents pay each year? IF that answer is 0 or very low, then you likely will not be able to go to college here unless you got into HYPS.

Khalid…you are not a U.S resident…therefore, any college you choose to attend (it sounds like you are only interested in four year residential colleges) will have a price tag between $45,000 and $60,000 per year.

You can easily check the cost of attendance on the school websites for schools you are considering.

You need to know that full rides…completely free of any costs… Are few and far between and are highly competitive. In addition, some awards are not given to international students.

If you use the google search engine, you can type in the name of the school followed by financial aid for international students…and you will get some hits for that school.

Consider the option of going to a less expensive university closer to home for your undergrad and then coming to a US university for your masters degree. For international students, there are more likely to be ways to fund an engineering masters degree than a bachelors degree. That will also provide time for you to refine your English skills and to save up money.

There also are some US community colleges that specialize in serving large numbers of international students and that have affordable costs. You need to look closely at the cost of living, which varies greatly between various parts of the US.

If you really want to go to school in the US, I’d start your student visa process as soon as possible.

Basically soccer is the only sport that I think I’m talented in it. And I know that soccer isn’t the 1st sport in U.S as the world. So that would decrease the probability of competitors. And I think that would help me to be the best or even from the bests in the University team. So I’ll be eligible for the scholarship. I think my family could pay 4000$/year or 3000$ or maybe less lol. For sure that can’t afford any of my university tuitions. Maybe that just gonna afford my visa & lil of my personal expenses. And what’s HYPS?

thumper1 I already know that U.S education is very expensive. But I’ve readed that some generous Universities welcome Int’ls and offer 'em a great scholarships especially for those who got a high score in SAT,GPA, ACT etc. Charlieschm I’m totally excepting that (Studying in U.S Universities as Graduated student). Actually I wan’t to study Civil Engineering, is there any community colleges that contains that major. And what you mean by saying (I’d start your visa procces asap)?

HYPS = Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Stanford
