Will getting 3 B's in one semester really kill my chances at getting admitted into UCSD, my dream school? The B's are in AP Chemistry, AP Lang, and maybe AP Calc AB if i don't do well on the final. My schedule is AP Chem, AP Music Theory, Japanese 3, AP Lang, APUSH, AP Calc, and self study AP Psych...so maybe they'll consider my class load too? I'm just freaking out right now..

My school is really competitive and is like the top 2% in the state (CA). I have really solid ECs too. But my grades...are really bad

Welcome to the club haha I still have my finals this week so I guess I should be studying but I honestly don’t even know how I have B+'s in AP Chem and Honors Precalc because I’m so lost. My high school’s probably top 10% in the state but probably not as good as yours and my EC’s are really average :/

But if it’s any bit reassuring my brother made UCSD and he didn’t focus that much on his academics. He only took like maybe 3 APs in all of high school? Didn’t really have much EC’s either… he was always playing League. He’s pretty smart but we weren’t sure if he was going to get in or not because he didn’t have all A’s either.

That being said I don’t think you should worry too much. They use weighted GPA (although according to him they only count the first 4 APs/Honors) so your GPA should still be at or over 4.0 (I think)? As long as your SAT and other stuff is strong I think you’ll be fine.

Agreeing with BlueWizard. Focus on kicking butt on your finals instead of freaking out about what UCSD is going to say. If your school is that competitive, your ECs are time-consuming, and your schedule is that rigorous, I think they’ll understand.

Just work hard, and you’ll be fine. No reason to freak out. =)
