My schedule got messed up this year because I wanted to take German, but the only way I could take that was if I was put into AP Human Geography and Honors English 10 as a freshman.
My next semester is beginning soon and I found out that Biology wasn’t in it. I talked to my school counselor and she said that she can fit me into Biology, but not Honors Biology as the slots are filled. I really want to take Honors Biology because I want to go to the Governor’s School for Science and Technology come junior year, but they want all applicants to have taken the most rigorous science and math courses possible.
I don’t know what to do. Please help.
First, don’t worry. Next, look at any other classes that can be moved around to accommodate Honors Biology (I am assuming you mean that your schedule cannot accommodate Hbio). If all the classes are full, like with students, then your only option is to see if you can take Honors Biology out of school. I am a sophomore myself, I don’t know how one would do this, but I’m sure it is possible. Also, if you are in the US, half the academic year has passed, if you are in BIology CP now, moving to Honors Biology is not really possible (at least at my school). What do you mean by not having biology in the next semester?
My first semester is almost over (in which I did not take a science course), and next semester I want to be in Honors Biology but the classes are full of students. And I can’t find any out-of-school HONORS biology.
Are your parents able to get involved? If the seats are all filled, can you get on a waitlist or perhaps take regular biology with the stipulation that your guidance counselor will let your college know that you took the most rigorous courseload available to you? Can you check with the teacher to ask if s/he will open up “just one more seat”?
This is what I was thinking. I’m not sure how the app process works to the governors’s school, but perhaps the guidance counselor can explain there were no available spots (this shouldn’t harm you, especially if you succeed in honors bio).
I would definitely talk to your guidance counselor and make sure he/she are aware of your goals and aspirations. Hopefully, there can be a way to remedy the situation. You could find out about an Independent Study (though, this could be time-intensive and isn’t the best option) or trying to rework your schedule.
You need to take Honors Biology based on your goal of attending The Gov’s School for Science & Technology.
