helllppp....can someone please be kind enough to put up a posting of the us news(preferably 2007) rankings in the field of earth science and the sub-fields of geology, geophysics and geochemistry..... thank you in advance :)

Do not base your grad school placement in geology based on rankings. Look for a good advisor. It also depends on what you are planning to do after school.

If you are planning on going into the petroleum industry, you are going to plan on a slightly different set of schools than if your only consideration is to go into academia. In my opinion, don't choose a school based on one or the other of these criteria, find one that has connections to industry while also having great placement of graduate students into tenure-track academic positions (nothing is certain in graduate school when you get there).

I can help you with specifics if you wish (if you have an idea of your specialty at this point), I'm obviously a geologist (based on my nick) that has been there done that in grad school.

If you must have some way to rank schools, look at this link that lists the 25 top geology PhD programs based on tenure-track academic placements. It's a much more balanced list that you will find in a USNews publication: http://geology.about.com/cs/colleges/a/aatop25phd.htm

Hope this helps and keep in touch throughout your search, I'm a good sounding post. Geologists are a tight-knit community if you haven't had that realization as of yet. :)
