I am a very analytical person who REALLLY REALLY wanted to go to USC. Now here's what I perceived from Midyear reports. DO not hate me and feel free to ignore me but I am using factual information w' real students. I go to a school USC really likes.

I have a : 4. 25 GPA / 1350 SAT/ no midyear (in)
student : 4.5/ 1410/ no midyear (in)
student: 4.17/ 1340 / no midyear (in)
4.24/ 1310/ no midyear (pendign)
4.6/ 1470/ no midyear (in)
4.3 /1300/ no midyear (pending)

4.10/ 1240 / midyear (pending)
4.15/ 1270/ midyear (pending)
3.9/ 1250/ midyear (pending) (she does not go to my school; from public hs)
3.5/ 1150/ midyear
and it goes on........

what i have noticed is that low SATs gets midyear reports. And when I say low, it's not even that low. THESE ARE REAL stats. midyear reports must not be random but they want to see more of a student b/c they are borderline on accepting/rejecting. Their stats are high adn low and it's up to USC to decide if they are good enough.

Looks like they are asking for them with lower SAT's than last yr. They would have asked for midyear with a 1300 last yr. I know someone posted that most got in last yr, but I didn't get the same impression. SC took great pride in the avg 1400 and 4.1 (as I recall). I would not believe anyone on the phone if they said it was random.

there might be some exceptions.. my friend (she really really wants to go there) has a 4.1 somthing GPA and a 1420 SAT score and she was asked for a mid year, and she hasnt recieved any notice yet from USC about admisson/rejection.

Yeah, I have a 1470 combined sat score, and I got a request for a midyear report. But my school sends them out automatically, so... it's kind of weird.

My school sends mid-year reports automatically too, but I still got a mid-year request form. CALL USC!! I did, and it turns out that they lost my report. I think also that they might not count it until you fill out this thing online with all the courses and grades.

But in general, CALL CALL CALL them and make sure!

my GPA is weighted 4.25. BUt also, the thing about midyear reports is that they send it to ppl with either low SATs or low GPA. They probably want to see midyears from high SAT low GPA ppl to see if they are working hard.

I got a request for the midyear grades with a 1220 SAT and 3.70gpa. Just out of curiosity (since we're on the subject), USC asked for a copy of the official report card (note that their MidYear websites asks for the REPORT CARD and not TRANSCRIPT). I entered my grades on their site and sent in a copy of my report card, though do you think I should send in an official transcript to be safe (even though I did that before the grades came out - when I sent in the original application). I only ask because my school uses a block system, and most of my classes don't show up on my transcript until June anyway.

Well, I have a 3.89 unweighted. Then my weighted is 4.25 . People who received a midyear report shouldn't worry TOO MUCH because at least t hey are keeping their eye out on you. If you didn't receive one and you are below their averages, start worrying. (Sorry, if I crushed some hearts.) Good luck to everyone and I hope everyone who wants to go there gets in.
