Question for those "In the Know"

How big of a deal are midyear grades? When chanced earlier it was implied that I had a very good shot. However my midyear grades probably won't be as good as they usually were. In full IB classes I may end up with a few B's and perhaps even a C.

Oh and our schedule and grades and everything were thrown off when our school was closed for a few weeks due to a roof collapse, worth mentioning?

Were you asked for midyear grades? If they didn't ask and they don't help, just don't submit. If they ask, any extenuating circumstances should be reported.

I thought they asked everybody?

Well there's always the "Click here to submit mid-year grades online" link, but I think they will specifically ask (maybe later on) except for the early acceptances competing for the Trustee or Presidential scholarships.

So..if/when they DO ask...am I screwed?

No, not at all. It means you're on their radar.

Well I mean am I screwed because my Senior grades aren't as good?

chs, that may be a problem if you're on the cusp.

No. Explain the situation with your school being closed and hope your peers who applied to USC didn't get straight A's.

I'm just gonna go ahead and repost my chance me. So look at these stats, and then throw in a C in an senior IB Spanish IV class..

GPA: ~3.7 in all IB classes, Four years of spanish
SAT: 2070 (superscored)
Reading: 740
Math: 620
Writing: 710

Extra Curriculars:
Varsity Basketball (2 years, junior senior)
Varsity XC ( 2 years, frosh soph)
Varsity Track (all 4 years)
Between the summer of sophomore and junior year I was in a play that my school took to the world famous Fringe Festival in Edinburgh, Scotland
Was in a select choir that went to Japan freshman year and Washington DC in 8th grade
Worked twice as a camp counselor
Worked at Hollister for a year
Attended various journalism workshops
Leadership:
Attended Boys State
3 years in the school newspaper (copy editor junior year, editor-in-chief senior year)
Volunteering to help put on local communtity races
Served as a page twice for the State Legislature

Yes, they will ask for midyear grades for all who do not get a big scholarship. We really don't know how much they will weigh those grades. But the good thing you have going for you is your tough class schedule. Admissions will take that into consideration when evaluating your grades. I wouldn't mention the school problems.

I read your previous chance threads. Someone should have told you that your gpa and test scores are slightly below the average for last year's admits but you are in the mean range so you have a shot.

But the best thing to do is don't get caught up in anyone's opinion here, including mine. There is no one here in the know! Have faith and it will all work out. Good luck!

Thanks CC4

I didn't get the Trustee or Presidential and I still got in last year without a midyear report.
