My first choices are the main schools I’m applying to. (I’m only applying to 3).

@stargirl- Could you please share where people can’t walk at certain schools here? I thought your post on another thread was so much fun!

There was a massacre at deerfield during the French and Indian war. Lots of townspeople killed and many more taken prisoner and forced to march to Quebec in the dead of winter. So a cemetery isn’t that big of a deal. :)

Can you say that again with a flashlight held under your chin?

Woodberry Forest School
The reasons I love Woodberry are because of the campus, and science department. The campus is HUGE and it is the perfect mix of water and mountains, I mean how many high school campuses have a main river of Virginia tributary running right through it. The campus also has an amazing view of the mountains. Their science building is absolutely amazing, and new, just built last year, and they have new buildings in the making. Its basically a very historic school, without historic classrooms and a historic education.

Deerfield=Senior Grass outside the main building
Emma Willard=Senior Triangle
Groton=The Circle (which is a circle, you know :D)

Loomis has that senior walkway in front of the Founders’ Building…

Concord has a part of the dining hall set aside for freshmen!

Now we’re talking!

I love logging into Gateway to look at all the green checks! It makes me happy and I do it way too much.

My top choice is so hard to choose…I really think I’d be happy at any of the 5 I applied to. But I feel as if Hotchkiss will be the hardest for me to get into. Millbrook and Pomfret made me the most --comfortable, if that’s the right word. I loved the atmosphere at all of them, and truly would be happy anywhere I potentially get in!!!

Thanks for your post, sarahpolo! Hotchkiss and Millbrook are amazing, but I LOVE Pomfret!!

Tell me more about Pomfret. I hear so little about it on this site.

My favorite-- Baylor School in Tennessee. I went to one of the school’s overnight open houses and fell in love. If I had had the choice, I would have enrolled right then. The faculty and staff were all so very, very welcoming. The students were awesome. I loved the honors Geometry class I visited. They were studying for a test, and the teacher included me in the discussion. The school had the head of the theater department come to meet me personally, and she invited me to their play in the following weeks. I love the uniform they have. I love their dormitories. I loved staying in a dorm room with a stateside boarder and an international boarder. It was really the first time I had met someone who would otherwise live outside of the US. I just love the campus and the location.

@Writer4Life- Thank you so much for your wonderful post! :)

Actually my son has applied to Pomfret, and a few other schools that may be somewhat harder to get into. Nonetheless, Pomfret seems to be the one he is leaning towards if he gets in. I liked it but worry that it is small and isolated. What is it that you love about Pomfret. I want to love it too.

@geeza1- Where do I start…

*The incredible Olmsted designed campus.
*The Turnbull (replica) Sundial. The only other one can be found at Princeton.
*The most beautiful Chapel I have ever seen- anywhere!!!
*WBVC 91.1 FM - The Pomfret Radio Station.
*The Olmsted Observatory ( Not every SS has their own Observatory).
*The incredible Arts Department. Amazing student art is displayed everywhere on campus. One has to see it to believe it. It is stunning!
*The visiting Fellow/Lecture Series. I think it’s definitely one of the best out there.
*Warm and very friendly community.
*Rigorous academics- Excellent College Placement.
*The Vanilla Bean Café !!!
*We have many different BS T-Shirts circulating in our large extended family and the Pomfret shirts are the most coveted. Don’t ask me why… but the kids love them.
*Great athletics and competitive teams. The facilities are spectacular.

The campus does feel remote ( and lets face it- it is ), but I do believe they keep the campus humming with a nice selection of on- campus and off- campus activities. They have a nice selection of clubs, too.

It’s a wonderful school and I wish you and your son all the best M10!!

Thanks for your reply. I did pick up on the warm and friendly community and I think that is what my son loved most about it, and more than any of the other schools we toured. And I agree about the chapel, but I didn’t see the observatory.
Thanks again.

Out of all the boarding schools I visited, (Hotchkiss, Andover, Exeter, Taft) Taft definitely stood out the most. The campus is picturesque, and everyone appeared to be very happy. The science building is awesome, I loved how it incorporated all the greatest scientists and their achievements into the staircases, so as you walked up, it was like you were traveling through the centuries. My tour guide was also the chillest guy ever, and I felt like we were best friends by the time I had to go. While I would go to the other schools before Taft if I got in purely based on academics and athletics, Taft is an incredible place. I encourage all of you to check it out and good luck on March 10!
