issue: "Technologies not only influence but actually determine social customs and ethics"

I firmly agree on the saying that technology fundamentally determines the social customs and ethics rather than the only influence, typically if the relatively long span of time is taken into consideration. Unquestionable to say, the technology is influencing our lifestyle or says customs, and moreover, actually the unceasing technological development undoubtedly directs our social customs and ethics along the history. This trend still moves on.

Back to the era of preliterate, when our ancestriescaveman who still settled in caves as independent tribes, Matriarchy was underway. At that era, female did fruit gathering works and taking charge of reproducing which is far more stable than the hunting tasks charged by males, and for that reason female control the higher social status. However, new hunting tools and technologies developed as females' dominant power was gradually replaced by the male, since the new technology had met the people's basic demands and livelihood can be warranted. Change from maternal to patrilineal society processed with the subversion of traditional customs and ethics. During the development of patrilineal society, peoples moved out of the cave and learn to build houses with their certain distinctive features using natural resources; male's advantage of strength proved more suitable for more important positions and thus determine their preeminent powers for the later several thousands of years; independent tribes began to uniform together for a more stable livelihood and governing; Works can be divided into much more diversities among peoples and all these change made possibilities for advanced cultures

Recent technological boost: electronic discovery brings infinite possibilities to the people in the 19th and 20th and still stimulate today's innovation. 'This chain reaction' determines and defines the recent generation's brand new lifestyle which was quite different from what it was before this mechanical revolution. In mid-19th Electricity began to drive machines to do heavy works which were charged by the males before. As to this development, more and more women in western countries began to works in the factories to manipulate machines such as Textile Machines instead of only staying at home for breeding kids. Over years, feminism emerged in the U.S, and followed by the reclamation of social status for overall female in the United States. Therefore, deepest push force is still laid by e technology as electronic discovery offers new lifestyle and recall for female's hierarchy.

Not only the development of technology itself brings change of the social value, but also the technology assist people to achieve and realize their new values and spirit, and replace the old and laggard customs and ethics. During the American civil war, President Abrahams Lincoln beat the south with great assistance of railway transportation which provides thousands of weapons and fodders to the front line every day, and telegraph which spreads messages and exchange information with different battle fields. It is the unlimiting and quick supply as well as the unlaggard information transection that guarantee the final winning, even though north troop was at the quite disadvantage in the beginning of the war. Therefore, without the technologies like railway transportations and telegraph, people like Lincoln with advanced thoughts can hardly implant the modern American spirit of parity among the whole country.

Additionally, learning from the history, I conclude that customs will always be more sensitive, comparing to the ethics under the directing of the technologies. For instance, one or several new technologies on clothing, which provided a better quality and warmth, will likely to change people's way of wearing. On contrary, newly recognized ethics among majority of people will definitely take much longer times with the accumulation of hundreds of technological changes and upgrades. Just as the rebuilding of social status of females in the era of mechanical revolution, not a single machine can change their destiny, but the accumulation of countless technological breakthroughs which together endowed people wisdom of machine inventions.

In a nut shell, we can find the custom and ethic's creations and changings can be all superficially attributed to their temporal people's devotion, while actually and primarily directed by accumulations of technologies along the history.
