Hey all =)

I'm new here, so hello all. =)

I plan on applying to Case (regular decision) for Fall 2007. I'm a little nervous, because I'm not sure if I'm going to be able to get in... (I've been seriously involved in at least three types of activies, and I have a 4.0 GPA--which makes me Valedictorian at my school--but my school has only one AP class and my SAT/ACT scores are, for the most part as of right now, mediocre--but I'm still still working on them, since I've taken them only once.)

But yeah. That's my background. Hopefully, I'll be able to get in and score high enough to get a scholarship.

(This was supposed to be an introduction of sorts--but I think it turned into a rambling of my nervousness. Well, hi, anyway. =) Maybe I'll be able to properly introduce myself as time goes by on this forum, heh.)

shorelinewind,
I'm a Case junior. I would suggest that you apply EA if you're not applying early elsewhere. You'll know sooner and if Case is one of your top choice it'll help you breathe a little easier and worry less. Also applying EA could help the scholarship money, I've seen some people say yes and some people say it doesn't have much of an impact but it definitely can't hurt. Just make sure your SAT/ACT scores are the best they can possibly be. Taken them a 2nd time would probably be a good idea.

Thanks so much for the advice =)

I'll definitely consider it, especially since I thought about applying to EA for Case a month ago. (I discarded the idea then because I grew a little worried about what I'd do if I got accepted with EA, but then found that my financial aid package didn't cover my needs.)

I'm still working on the SAT scores. (The first-time scores weren't glorious: I scored 520 for Math, 600 for CR, and 650 for writing. Ouch.) I'll be taking the test again in October--and maybe in November and December after that--but I'll see how this one goes and see if it'll be good enough for EA.

Again, thanks for your advice. I really appreciate it. =) (I would've replied sooner--but I didn't realize that I don't have e-mail notifications yet--if CC has them--and only found your response today, so sorry about that.)

Urvi,
One quick thought, some schools view taking the SAT more than 2 or 3 times negatively. Particularly if all 2-3 times were junior/senior year. Does Case? I'm not sure but rather than going for quantity, just prep really well and get it over in one shot it'll save you time & money and won't hurt you for sure. Good luck

shore: Case's EA is non-binding, so you are not "stuck" with one school if the finaid doesn't work for you.

Most schools don't take into account how many times you took the SAT because only the filtered out highest score of each section is given to the Admissions Officers who read the folder. It is in the interest of the colleges to have high SATs for their incoming class because rankings lists like US News use that to rank the school, and everyone wants to be ranked as high as possible.

Big 10 state schools, OTOH, use the highest total score from a single test sitting.

The thing about taking the SAT 3 more times this fall: the deadline to sign up for the 11/4 test is 9/29, w/ late fees it's 11/11 (which is before you even take the 10/14 test and know the results). The 12/2 test deadlines are 11/7, 11/9 w/ late fees, so you probably still won't know the October results. I don't think the December test would be used for EA (or ED) decisions.

Also, if you need to take any SAT Subject tests, you need to plan for that in the schedule.

An option to the SAT is to try the ACT which supposedly tests subject knowledge rather than aptitude, and some people do better on it. But again, some prep time and practice tests would yield better results. If you don't do better, then just don't report the ACT score to Case.

Thanks for your response. =)

I actually did take the ACT (and got a 25, sigh), but I had more trouble with it than I did with the SAT--firstly because it really doesn't test subject knowledge (it's just like the SAT) and secondly because I panic under the time pressure.

SAT allows me to breathe a little more and calmy pace through the test. I'm guessing that can only help me improve my scores.

Anyway, thanks for the heads-up on the SAT deadlines. I'm a little upset that I won't know my scores (and won't get my QAS material) before I register for the November test, but at least I'll know how many questions I'm not sure about by the end of test in October.

Just a final question before I stop rambling: Do you agree that EA/ED could help me get scholarships/financial aid?

Thanks again. =)

Urvi

Ah... Good to know. Thanks. =) I tried to look that up a couple of months ago, but only found a report that said that EA/ED is binding at Case.

I think I'll just have to research a little more now.

I wish I could know my results before the next registration deadline. = ( I'm trying to prepare well for the October test; hopefully, it'll go well.

shorlinewind,
I was a bit confused by your post about EA/ED at Case and wanted to clarify. Case only does EA there's no ED. Case EA is NOT binding, you have until May 1st to decide.

Ah... Okay. Thanks for the clarification! =)

I really haven't researched much into Case EA yet, which should explain my confusion; I hadn't been seriously considering EA until now.
