Random info Im a URM and First gen college student from a low income family.

So it would be very help if you guys would give an idea of where I should be looking. Thanks a lot

We need some level of information. Unless you have like a 0.3 (which you don’t), it is not very hard to find reach, match and safety schools. What type of schools are you looking at? Private or public? Liberal arts or not? Are there any specific majors or programs you are looking at? Small or large? Where in the country do you want to be? Obviously there are some schools that will probably be unrealistic (ivies), but you have a decent number of options.

I’m looking at private school, I like liberal arts schools. Medium to large schools. Programs I’m interested in are good science programs like chem and physics, but also have good business programs as I am deciding between the two. And I thought about applying early decision to Cornell and I don’t think it would be impossible as in recent years people with my stats have got in. For one my friend who graduated 2 years ago got into Cornell RD with a 93 Gpa ( 3 points higher than mine) and a 1940 SAT, but he decided to go to Cornell. Also this other student went to Cornell and he had a 88 or 87 so about a 3.2, 3.3 Gpa and a 1950 SAT and he also got in.The teacher who looked at his essays said they were beast though. Many more cases of people from my school getting in with about 3.5 and SATs in the 1900 happen often at my school. So right now thats my target school and it is a reach, but I was hopeful since Cornell accepts lots of kids from my school with similar stats. Oh what do you think of my chance at cornell?

Liberal arts schools tend to be the smallest so they does not work well with wanting to go to a medium to large school.

Anyway, I have no idea how a lot of people from your schools with those numbers have gotten in, but it probably helps. It suggests that either your school has connections at Cornell or the rigor at your school is crazy. That being said my guess is there was something the set them apart, even if you did not know about it. No matter what Cornell is a reach (ivies tend to be reaches for everybody), your stats are on the low end (especially your SAT scores) and your ECs are average for an ivy (nothing to compensate for lower numbers). If you are set on Cornell I would recommend applying EA/ED (I am not sure if they have EA or ED). Does this help?

Yea this helps a lot I am thinking about ed to Cornell, and maybe my use of lots was inappropriate. My school is a easy public school without crazy academic vigor. Barely any actually. And I the graduating class is only about 70 people each year whole high school is only about 300 people. Usually the people who are in the top 10 have a good chance at Cornell. Now that I think about both people had great essays that I know personally. And my SAT currently is low but I’m shooting for above a 2100 which should put me in the running. And I I’m only sending US and my second Chem SAT 2. Now that I think about maybe this is why people get in so easily. At my school no one gets 2400 literally no one in the last couple years at least. The people with the highest test scores usually only have 2200 and that is very high. Also my valedictorian only has 94.4 or something. So I’m guessing that since no one is getting crazy scores at my school that Cornell finds these lower scores better. Like in my grade right now the highest SAT score is only a 1980 so maybe Cornell admits students based on how well they did compared to other students in their own school. So a 94 looks great here and anything above a 2000 is also great. Am I making sense??

A couple people a year get into Cornell, but thats a lot because after the top 10 students the grades usually arent even in the 90s.

You make sense, but I have never heard of a school accepting students with lower SAT scores because SAT scores tend to be low at that students score. If you are applying ED there is a good chance you will have to use your current scores (you will be cutting it very close in terms of getting your scores in time). If you lack rigor in the classes you have taken then that will make your GPA look worse. The more information you give the more Cornell looks like a high reach.

I personally had a rigorous schedule and took tall the hardest classes my school has offered. Besides AP Calc, but besides that I have taken all the hardest classes. And what I meant was its not that my school doesnt have a rigorous schedule its just that its not known for it. And I’m taking the sat in October so those scores will be ready for ED and Im taking chem sat 2 in november and having the scores rushed.
