Okay, so I know I made a thread with my friend's averages before, but I really want to help him out again, and he really wants to go to NYU Stern, so I made this thread that I can show him to build his confidence, and can you guys tell me JUST through his raw grades what his chances are? He had a terrible Sophmore year and doesn't know whether he will get rejected.........

What do you think his chances are for Stern?????? I don't know his EC's that well/ might screw them up. He is applying regular decision, he is Indian, and he needs financial aid. On the 4.0 Scale, his average UW is 3.65 and don't know weighted.

I don’t think he has any chance. Maybe only because he is a minority.

I dont think he will get in based on those stats, GPA is too low for Stern, but his SATs are good so he has a slight chance if his recs/essay are good.

Oh really? Well, the average GPA at NYU is around 3.67, so why would his GPA of 3.65 be terribly low? Also, if you look at his SAT’s they are all above average.

are you sure this “nervous friend” isn’t you? lol jk

ahha, no I got into Stern thank god!

I think the GPA is low because its Stern, and that is held at a higher standard than the average NYU standards. If there is something that could explain the Soph year bad grades then he may have a better shot.

Could someone else from Stern or NYU in general answer please? Thank you Bump

how the hell is a 3.65 low?!

I know, Stephennn could you chance him please?

this is why i have a problem with chance posts. unless someone on here actually works in the department of undergrad admissions, NO ONE KNOWS! EVEN STERNIES DON’T KNOW!

a bunch of people on CC telling your friend he has a chance or not is not really going to impact anything. we’re all just speculating, usually on arbitrary information. a Sternie is not going to be able to tell an applicant whether or not they have a chance by just being in Stern. just like i don’t know who can get into Steinhardt by virtue of being in Steinhardt.

Stern IS held at a higher standard than other schools of NYU, yes. but it’s like comparing apples and oranges, when you compare the vastly different schools of NYU. while they’re all under the purple and white torch, each has their own standards.

yeah, thanks thanks.

from what i’ve seen on the threads, he seems like every stern applicant… i would definitely put him more at a high match.
