hey deferred students: what will/have you done?

Is there anything you will do / have done since your deferral?
(e.g. sending in extra recommendation letters, trying to win as many competitions as you can, starting new stuff, etc)

most deferalls that get accepted dont send in any additional info i believe...

Really, slak? I'd be interested to see any stats, if you have them.

I have requested a junior college chemistry teacher (who has taught at MIT for four years) to provide a letter of recommendation.

I will be submitting an essay which requests MIT to change my declared major to MechE on an Energytrack with a minor in Bioengineering (instead of a major in BioE). I discuss my perenial curiosity for how things work and my practical approach to improving them (my inventions).

I'm also considering sending an additional essay on my experiences in Bangalore, India. I discuss my difficulty in Inorganic Chemistry and Modern physics (students in Bangalore had a two year advantage over me). Then I discuss how collaboration, above competition, allowed me to suceed.

I'm not sure if this is overkill. Then again, I've heard of people sending boxes of stuff.

I got my Hall Director to send in a rec. (I planned to do this originally, but forgot). I also wrote an extra essay, as the two I set with EA app didn't really portray 'me'. Also sent in a mathematical formula that I derived (post EA app) that finds a best fitting surface (surface, not function, so it can do spheres) for 'N' points in 'n' dimensions in the form of a Kth degree polynomial. I also sent in a clipping of a newspaper article that interviewed me and a friend about a research project we're working on with some other people. Hopefully it's not overkill...

nm i think i got that quote mixxed up with supplementary material, but go by the rule of thumb of if it gives them a better idea of you, send it!

I was deferred last year, and I'm now a freshman at MIT. I sent in a 1.5-page update that listed things in bulleted form. I also included two research abstracts and a large topographic map that I made. Unlike in my essays, I was very up-front about wanting to come to MIT.

could you please explain how you did your "research abstracts" in a little detail and what it was on? thanks. :)

I sent a 1 1/2 pages with updates and changes to the ea app.

I know a deferred student last year that didn't send anything and still got in RA, so don't think that it is a requirement

interesting ideas. Idk about extra recommendation, but I think i'll send in more stuff; it can't hurt for sure.
Anyone sending in extra recordings, etc, or is that not even considered anymore?
