helpmeoutman : i am not sure that maybe the top schools want an overall percentile that's higher than 95% for int'l students. but i am very interested about your score.

besides this, i will retake ssat on jan.10th

I asked them face to face.

you need to improve verbal. just imagine that your are in crazy love with vocabs and memorize as much as you can. thats how i brought my verbal up from 78 to 94. it helps

Hi helpoutman, would you mind sharing which schools told you that 95% for int'l thing? Thanks a lot!

yeah how did you get that information? which school did you ask?

if anything, i thought the boarding schools expected less of the int'l students' ssat scores...

Yeah that was like basic stuff. Maybe helpoutman was talking about Korean/Chinese applicants to HAEDS I suppose...

Hey everybody! I saw your posts earlier on (sorry to sound like a stalker) and I would just like to ask (really sorry to sound like an obsessed freaked-out applicant, but still, I'm curious) how much would schools like A/E, SPS or Lawrenceville look for in the SSATs of an international applicant.
I'm native Chinese like raytecz (living in Hong Kong) and have taken the TOEFL (though my first language is English, plus the scores haven't been received yet).

SSAT Percentile: 98%
Math: 99%
Verbal: 99%
HOWEVER, Reading 74%

I've seen other posts claiming that the Reading section is less important than the other two, but there wasn't sufficient reason why. So I'd just like to ask...
By the way, I'm completely dying over the essays. Anyone same here?

The Minimalist, you might get significantly more responses if you posted your own thread on this subject.

well yes. student from eastern asia, excluding Japan.

minimalist: I also did pretty well for verbal and math but really really bad for reading. i got 78%. well they look at the percentile of the each percentile so that can get in a way. BUT since you seriously aced the other two subjects, i think you are gonna be perfectly fine. besides if you are native zhongguoren, they will sort of "tolerate" your lower reading percentile.

congrats!!!

I'm still waiting for the bit about int'l students need 95%+? Now, I personally did get over 95%, but do boarding schools do that? Is the standard higher for int'l or something?

Minimalist, you're fine.

the answer is both yes AND no.

if you are an international from like china or korea, because too many students bring excellent ssat, the standard is much higher. this is because there are limited applicant pool for schools, except SPS.

well but if you are from Africa (with all due respect), you wont really be expected to have that high ssat.

you get what im saying?

Thanks for all the feedback guys.

Re TomTheCat: The exact reason why I didn't start my own thread was that I did NOT want to sound like those people who post near-perfect SSAT scores and showcase all their accomplishments and extracurriculars THEN ask stupid questions like if they have any chances at all at this top-tier school or that. They might just as well have said "Cut it out guys, you don't stand a chance. Now bow down, worship me, say that I'm completely fine, and get out of here."

Re helpmeoutman: Aaah now I get the situation. I take it that you've met some people who've taken the SSAT countless times just because they scored a low-nineties in one section and aced the rest? I had a friend who used to moan into my face every day at school because of that. I told her to shut up.
