Hey Moms! Letters to share?

Hey Moms (and Dads)! Whether you are USNA, USMA, USMMA, USAFA or USCGA... Share your stories of your letters and phone calls here!

Would love to hear the news from all!!

I got 2 letters today. The first one started this place sux. I am so homesick...
yada yada yada.
The second written the next day said how great the firework display was and how nice it was to relax a bit. Also, hoping to get his cleats and locker in the fieldhouse today. He breezed through the confid. course and loved the sailing evolution. Might take up sailing as a hobby one day. Oh Yeah, send food
How Bi-polar can a kid get :D

Because my dd is a Youngster, we're getting emails instead of letters. We never got the downer letter from Plebe Summer, but then she really never wrote much! Her 3 phone calls were pretty upbeat.

Right now she's on a destroyer out of Japan and regaling us with tales of watching dolphins and whales. She had a grand time in Russia, loves her running mate that she follows, went to an orphanage, and had a ball in Tokyo. When your Plebes get down, tell them to keep their eyes on the prize: summer cruise!

Perhaps he liked sailing so much because Son is one of sailing cadre.
He seems to be taking extra care to see that "his" Plebes are brought along in a way that he would want.

Received 3 letters and a postcard from our plebe. All have been very upbeat and positive. When our call came in on Sunday, she said "it's the hardest thing she has ever done, but is so glad to be here." She too loves sailing and drill........(so far).....Also said to keep sending FOOD....
..as the rollar coaster ride continues........

Our son's letters and his phone call were all pretty upbeat. Says it's definitely hard but "not too bad" but he's really looking forward to summer's end. Really enjoys sailing, said church was great, really likes his roommate and squadmates. Has mentioned a couple of PTs in Bancroft in which they close all of the doors(?). Also said not to send anymore care packages now as they don't have time to eat any of the food. Is enjoying XC and is hoping to be able to stay with the Varsity team.

Recieved two detailed letters today! I feel like a fly on the wall when i get through reading her letters! GREAT DAY!

Boy is well. Says it's like the summer camp from hell, but it's "fricken awesome!" He never knew a gun could weigh so much. He's active in chapel and is a crucifer and usher. He validated Calc., and he hopes his math teacher in high school is proud of him (he LOVES her).

Uniforms are "fricken sweet." Such a boy! You get "fricken hungry" while doing PT, before breakfast. Formations take way too much time. Gunnery Sergeant is scary!

Validated Calc! That Is "fricken" Awesome!! Go Killer! Go Killer!

It is kind of quiet on the parents board...wake up everybody!

I have had a good day. First I received an email from the chaplain that included a picture of my new cadet taken on the 11th at "chaplain's time". He is in his ACU's with a big smile on his face. Then I received two letters. One was a form letter I had sent. He only needed to circle the answers and return it but he also added a paragraph at the end. The other letter was about 2/3 of page that he wrote on the 12th but didn't have time to mail until the 16th. He is doing well and has a positive attitude. He said he finally got to buy a fan for his room on the 12th and that night he got his first good nights sleep. He says "that was the best $9.95 I every spent!" :D

Got a letter yesterday. Son is actually enjoying much of plebe summer. Really likes XC. Has a super roommate and isn't looking forward to cadre change simply because he really likes the ones they have now. Said the "last 3 days have been great". As we haven't heard from him since phone call, it was a huge relief to get so much positive info!

We received 3 letters stuffed in one envelope yesterday. They were wriiten over the course of a week. He stated that he was starting to take to this"military stuff". He was getting used to the routine and hated the rate sessions. Sunday was like a holiday and enjoyed going to chapel. Spoke of getting 1800.00 worth of cool gear. Said he had shoulder boards and summer whites in his possession. He told me things were getting much better except for the alarm clock the cadre uses to wake them up. In his words it is the most god awful sound you have ever heard. A metal shower rod banging against the doors, A bucket used as a drum, an air horn accompanied by the usual yelling to clear the racks.
He told of the 4-5 mile runs per day along with 100's of push ups etc. Also a little thing called MPT (motivational physical training) usually done right before the squad went to the O course. He said after the MPT we went to the o course and I climbed that freakin' 30 ft rope on the first try and thought to myself , Take that you SOB. We can't believe the change in attitude from a couple weeks ago when he hated everything about the place and hated everybody and everything it stood for. Like I said, the darn kid is Bi-polar.

Not bi-polar, just teenage! Sounds like ours. Half of the letter is upbeat, the other is a list of what sucks. I must keep all of these letters so he can read them at some other point in life. Hopefully, he'll look back and laugh. Plus, since I type mine (my handwriting is very neat, but looped and hard to read for those accustomed to chicken scratch), save them, and will place them with the letters received.

Blackhawk! Sounds like you got a great group of letters and I know they made your day.

Got a good letter from Lola yesterday and she is still happy, still having foot issues but other than that can't wait for academic year to start!! :)

You have no idea how much of a weight was lifted off our shoulders to get those letters. I hate to hear Lola is still having foot issues. The cadre change takes place tomorrow i think. That should provide a little lift to our plebe.
I type my letters as well. I can type much faster than I can write and it is much more legible as you say. W have all of his letters in a big envelope and will bring them out ...oh say... when he has kids. We are just so thankful that it seems our plebe has survived and is on his way to becoming a Naval or MC officer.
I still am less than thrilled about the mail service by the 1st set of cadre. He reports that he gets mail maybe 2x a week if they are lucky. I will be so glad when they have email access and of course the ever present cell phone.

Hubby and I are going to the Turnover tomorrow. Don't be surprised if your plebes sound stressed about the new cadre during their phone calls Sunday...remember the old saying? Better the devil you know. Now they're starting over with a fresh, new (unknown) group

My son says his are pretty cool. Less butt kicking and yelling, more learning. AT PPW, he just wants us to get him the heck off the yard! :)
