Hey M2L! Our Boy finds out on Thursday when he'll be starting flight school and is suffering from serious short-timer's attitude! What's Lola going to be doing for her summer training?

OMGoodness! I can't believe that our son is about to graduate! Ours will be heading for Pensacola, too, ATRMom, and ditto on the Short-timers! Just wants to be done!

What are you doing for commissioning? We rented a house (who would have known 14 people from the west coast would want to show up?!) But I feel like I am behind the power curve all the time!

Oh well, I am sure it will all be fine!

Yes, Plebe year was long for us parents, but man, the rest of it flies!

Not a Mom, but I'm sure you'll let a Dad in here. I think waiting for my daughter's appointmnet is even harder the second year. Everyone here will definitely know when we hear.

Heartfelt congratulations to soon-to-be Navy pilot sons of atrmom and momof1!
Congratulations to Lola for (almost) making it through plebe year! And Cougar_62, many on this forum are anxious to hear the good news about your daughter's appointment! Good Luck to everyone.

momof1...I hear you, I keep thing there are a million things I ought to be doing, but I can't figure out what they are! We did rent a house, the little pink one with flower boxes right outside of Gate 1. It's tiny but it's just the 3 (4) of us and the location is perfect...we can park the car and walk everywhere. Grandparents and Aunt/Uncle are local so they'll be coming up for selected events and then we got them hotel rooms for the night before graduation. When does your son want to go to Pensacola? Our guy wants to get there ASAP...I guess they'll find out on Thursday!

My girl continues to do well in her Youngster year at USNA. Made the Supe's list which she was happy about after this past semester. Is progressing in Arabic Studies. Was supposed to head to Yemen over spring break with a group of 5 mids+ Arabic teacher. Just last week the US Ambassador in Yemen pulled the clearance - which only tells us all about how serious things are getting in the Middle East. She is also scheduled to head to Jordan for an entire month of Block 1 Summer training. Hmmmmm will that change?? No one knows at this point in time.

The bright side of the cancelled trip is that instead of heading thousands of miles in the opposite direction of dear ole mamma - she is coming to SoCAL with the Women's Glee Club. So we'll see her in mid-March after all!

Cougar...I'm dying along with you.Prayers are on your girl's behalf.

My son spent fall semester in Jordan. Hope your daughter gets to go! I visited while he was there and found it to be a beautiful country filled with hospitable people.

My oldest DS resigned from an Academy April 07'. He worked full time until summer classes started at a State University. I know that his Wages, tips and other compensation are taxable income. His W-2 from the Academy box 1. is just shy of $5000 and his box 2. is about $100. We will still claim him as a dependent since we provided for than half of his 2007 support.

My question is: can DS claim deductions for a portion of the $5000 from the Academy as scholarship earnings or required uniforms, etc.?

My initial calculations on the 1040 EZ form indicate that he will owe more than $600. If he can claim deductions I know he would have to file the regular 1040. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Its so nice to hear all you moms are still kickin! Spring Break will be here soon. What are your mids doing? My kiddo is headed to S. America on a Mission Trip through group at USNA. Very Exciting!

Keep your finger's crossed that our Boy gets the early start date he wants tonight!!! Good luck to all the other Firsties...I hope they all get their first choice of date, ship, sub etc!

Since it's possible your post could get buried in this thread, I'd have to tell you that I think this is why we have professionals. You may want to ask an accountant or start a new thread asking for accounting help.

WOW YOU MOMS!!!!! WAY TO KEEP IN TOUCH!! (And Dad) :D

Cobia..... words could probably not express how proud you must be. Congrats many times over.

Atrmom - one big YAHOO! That is big. Its just big. Let me repeat. ITS BIG.

A bunch of us are getting ready for Seniors/Firstie status coming up. I am in complete disbelief. Wasn't I just on here yesterday asking you guys what you were sending your Plebes so I could do the same? All you guys kept me sane. Many thanks! Glad you're still here to bop in & say "hey"!

I recall every adventure that you've shared here that your kids have done. I remain amazed. Good luck to all going to see a graduation this year.

M2L, boy oh boy this goes by fast! Give her a hug from the CC clan & tell her way to hang this first year!!

Cobia - congratulations to you and your son!!

I can tell already that the time is going to fly by. It seems like just yesterday was R-day and now my son is talking about summer training schedules. By the way he isn't coming home for spring break - poor me :(. He is going to the Florida Keys with friends.

Congratulations to your son! What an honor and how proud your entire family must be. (Funny, but my daughter was in the picture that was up for a few days before. She was on the left in the front row.)

Haven't checked in for a while, but mine is headed down to Pensacola for Sept. 19th class up. He still has Introductory Flight School to do after Commissioning, and then he has a couple of weddings to be in, so he planned this out very carefully and got his first choice, too!

He and his two roommates will be coming here, to Alaska, for Spring Break. Not much warmth to the sun, but we'll be up to almost 12 hours of daylight again, so they will have lots of fun. Between skijoring with the the huskies (where you put on cross country skis and the huskies pull you) and the snowmachining in the mountains, they will be plently busy!

Can't believe this has gone so fast! On to the next level! I can't be old enough to have a Naval officer as a son! :0 Yikes!
