Hey Penners,(just made my new word!) do I have a chance at Penn?

Hey, Im a rising senior this fall, and wanting to apply for class of 2013 Penn.
Speaking of stats...

Ethnicity: Korean
GPA: 3.82 (so far)/ 4.00 scale
SAT: 2080 for the latest one. (650 cr, 720 wr, 710 m)
-currently preparing to improve it up to a 2200+
SAT IIs: Chemistry - 800
Math IIC - 800
Class Rank: (not so sure about this...) My school just changed its gpa ranking system to a GRADE PERCENT AVERAGE...By calculation my average is
(95/100) so far.. Class Rank is...10~15th out of 85 in my class

APs:
Chemistry- 5
Calc AB - 5
Lang and Comp - 4
E/C: Founder/ President of Pep band
Student Council Representative (2 years)
First Trombonist in Jazz Band ( 6 years)
Model UN (delegate)
Journalism (School Newspaper) (copy editor + reporter)

Personal E/C:
-Community Service at a dental clinic
-Joint research with an university on dental + genetics (most likely 2nd-authoer)

This is just a brief highlight thing..so yeah i'd appreciate both positive and negative feedback. (It would begreat if you guys can comment on my chances if I apply ED, which is what I am most likely going to do..)

You have a fighting chance, only because your rank is somewhat low. Although 10-15 PERCENT would be excellent, #10-#15 out of 85 kids is not so great. You definitely have a shot at CAS, but probably not Wharton, Huntsman, Jerome Fisher, Nursing, etc.

Yes, I also think you aren't strong enough for Wharton, but you seem to have potential. Get that score above 2200, rank in the top10% and you also need a few more strong EC's (leadership).

Good luck!

i have a dumb question, do people have to take SAT II for applying to UPenn?

of course! two of them at least.

you look like a pretty good candidate. But remember SATs arent everything and dont kill yourself just to get the 2200. You cant just focus on test scores, although you did do really well on your SAT 2s which will also help. I didnt have the best SATs in the world but I had a ton of ECs and I worked really hard on the application because Penn was my first choice. I got in and I'm going. I think the best thing I did was keep in contact with the local alumna who interviewed me. She was tight with the board and I updated her with new information and i made sure she knew that I wanted to go to Penn more than anything! Good luck with senior year :)
