Hey Senor Matador!

Are you back from your weekend at OSU. I’m curious to know what the Morrill Scholars Weekend was like and how was your experience.

Hey, I am still here, I actually leave tomorrow. So far the trip has been excellent, everyone here is so helpful! The campus is HUGE, all the Fisher classes and buildings are so, I guess you'd say 'upscale' and wired like crazy and what-not. Like I said before, all the students around here were really helpful and patient, they helped us out alot especially when we got confused in the cafeteria and what-not. What the Office of Minority Affairs did with us was WAY above and beyond what other colleges have done from what I have heard. They brought in some other students who spent the day with us and shared us all their experiences, we got to meet some of the professors in the colleges that we applied to, some we met individually (I sat down with one of the head honchos in the college of arts and sciences for my spanish minor), the foreign languge building was over the top, it was so high-tech and what-not. I even got to see snow fall for the first time in my life, coming from CA. They have definitely made Ohio State one of my top choices, over schools like USC and some UC schools. Anyone who visits HAS to see the RPAC, the gym, the thing is massive and has so many levels its crazy. Overall, I loved this experience and anyone offered this trip in the future, do not even hesitate to say yes!
(Sorry about the big block of typing, I was so excited about it!)

SenorMatador-enjoyed your blog! OSU did not come under DDs radar till this fall. We have been blown away by every program/presentation we have attended. OSU is now #1 on DDs list of 7 schools. We live only 30 minutes from campus...and this is from a kid who really wanted to "fly away" after hs. I do believe she will still fly away...but that will be when she studies abroad??? Good luck to you.

So glad you are having a great experience Senor Matador. I agree about the RPAC, isn't it amazing.

momnipotent, I am amazed that OSU is still on my S's radar. OSU has done such a great job recruiting these kids and I think that it will be a great choice if he picks it. We are going to visit his final two schools in a couple of weeks and I have a feeling that Ohio State will be at the top of his list.

Hey deb922- what other schools is your S looking at?

momnipotent,
I had to laugh when I read your post. I am a freshman at OSU, and I also live about 30 minutes away from campus. My #1 worry about coming here was the fact that my family was so close by. I was afraid that they would come up to visit me all the time (I love my family, I just didn't want to be suffocated). Anyway, I absolutely love it here! It really is nice to have my family close by. It's really easy for me to go home for holidays and see by bf (he goes to a different school) and veg. Besides, if I forget to bring something back to school with me, my parents can normally get it to me within a couple of days. Just thought I'd let you know!!

Chelsea- great post! Looking forward to being Buckeyes.

Anytime! By the way, I am (most likely) going to be an Honors Peer Contact over the summer, so if your daughter has any questions I'd be happy to answer them. :)

What dorm do you live in? We have never had time to visit any honors dorms. Any that you would recommend--or unrecommend?

I live in Bradley, and I absolutely love it here! I'm going living here next year too. South campus is the place to be (athough, I suppose I'm pretty biased). There are quite a few tasty food options on South campus. :) Haha! Also, most of my classes are pretty close by. I have some friends that live on north campus, and they often complain about how far they have to walk to get food or go to class. I hope this helps!

DD will be poli sci major---would Bradley be near her classes? Did you get a random roommate or did you room with someone you know? Sorry bout all the questions... thanks..

Well, I looked up the political science building (Derby Hall), and it is right on the North Oval. That's about a 5-7 minute walk from Bradley (which is pretty good). She'll probably be taking a lot of GEC courses when she gets here, though, so her classes could be anywhere on campus. The farthest I had to walk to class was 12-15 minutes and that was for Chem. I do know that if she takes some honors classes, they will probably be in Enarson Hall which is right across the street. I really enjoy that!
Also, I got a random roommate. We get along really well.We talk and occasionally watch movies together, but we both have our own set of friends. Luckily we're both heavy sleepers, so if one of us comes in late the other one doesn't wake up. :)
