hey ya

Me too. The Yale rep said that they don't compare you to people from your state. They only look at you in context of your school.

so. they compare you to your school.
oh brother

What I'm trying to say is, you don't want to be the number 2 kid from your Wyoming school, trying to get into the same selective schools as the number one kid.

Oh, goodness... my school... uh oh....

Are athletes and normal applicants evaluated in the same pool?

Cause there's an athlete applying SCEA as well...I don't know if he's a recruit, but he's quite good.

It's my understanding that the regional reps read the applications from their region first, and decide which ones to present to the full committee. So you are basically going to be compared to others from your "region"--however Yale defines that. (I hope that our sparsely-populated state is not lumped with Massachusetts in one region, for example, since it would mean that our kids would have to compete with kids from most of the top prep schools and the very wealthy, sophisticated high schools of Massachusetts just to get to the committee.)

I see that there were 18 applicants from my state, and I believe they usually seem to take something like 3, overall. I don't know how many of those are SCEA, although I do know an uber-student who was rejected RD after being accepted at another HYPS school early.

Thank God Brazil only had 3 applicants. I hope this year it's only me.

Yeah, living in LA I'm pretty much screwed.

Your region is defined by states that have school systems or the level of education similar to your state. It's not necessarily defined by geographic location.

"I hope that our sparsely-populated state is not lumped with Massachusetts in one region, for example, since it would mean that our kids would have to compete with kids from most of the top prep schools and the very wealthy, sophisticated high schools of Massachusetts just to get to the committee."

yeah seriously... im from a pretty average public high school in MA and im competing against kids from friggin BB&N and rivers... its really depressing...

I am a little fish in one big, smart, rich pond.

Fack.

Wait -- what did you guys get as the region from your Eli letter? My region is 03A/CA and I'm in San Francisco.

I'm 11A/CA

yay, i'm in 15A/ny.

that yay is sarcasm at its utmost. god help me.

Hahah ditto.

I'm 21A/
and nothing in front of it. I hope no one applies from here in Saudi Arabia. No one I know is.

Mine's 22A/
but I'm not American.

09B/ME here

19A/NV!! woot

I'm 11A/CA and proud of it
