HEY YOU. YES YOU. Hi. Can you please chance me for Georgetown and Howard BS/MD?

GPA: 4.03ish (weighted) [turns out I was wrong about my GPA being 3.9]. Several people in my class have 4.4+ GPAs. I've taken 6 APs thus far (2 in sophomore, and 4 in junior). I've signed up for 4 in senior year.
I had straight A's freshmen and sophomore year, but I dropped to 5 Bs and 2 Cs in Junior year (negative trend). My friend had very detrimental health problems with her appendix and had potentially limited time left to live. Not an excuse but I hope this will explain my Junior year so that it doesn’t just look like that I’m a bad student that slacked off. I've taken highest classes available literally. I’ll do my best to get straight A’s this semester.

Academically my school is ranked about 1st in the county, 7th in the state, and 112th in the nation; I'm not sure if that's considered competitive or not.

SAT: 2060

MAIN QUESTION.
If I can pull of straight As for the next two quarters ( to show them that I’m usually a smart student ) and if I can pull off a 2200+, what would my chances be for Georgetown University and Howard’s BS/MD 6 year program?

My mom got her residency from Howard University so hopefully this would be legacy for me?

I think you are competitive for Howard, and for GT, with an 18% admission rate- it’s anyone’s guess. Looking at your grades and scores though, you are more competitive for Howard.
One thing to consider is cost, especially with med school plans, and your financial aid status. GT is a hefty price tag- and add med school to that?
Apply to both and see, but Howard 6 year plan looks like a good option and would save considerable money in the long run. Don’t know if mom’s connections will make a difference or not as I am not familiar with the program.

But given that accelerated BS/MD programs are extremely competitive, would it hurt me very much that I don’t have many medicine-related extracurriculars? I only have that one volunteering that is all.

I don’t know about extracurriculars in medicine, best to ask admissions. You have one EC, but if it is an in-depth one, it may be enough. I know med schools want to see volunteer activities, but I am not sure about undergrad. IMHO you saw a wide range of situations, and if you were very involved- and showed maturity in your work… maybe even get a recommendation letter, this may count as a lot. I would think (and this is just my opinion) that maturity would be a factor in being a young student in medical school. But ask admissions to be sure.

It does not hurt to apply- won’t you get admitted as a regular undergrad if you do not get into the 6 year track? You will still be able to apply to med school. I expect that these programs get more qualified applicants than they have spaces, so the best you can do is apply- and know that there is still the traditonal path to med school.

I hope you are also considering other schools. Doing well as an undergrad would allow you to apply to medical schools later.

Even if you don’t get into the 6 year program for howard you will most likely get a full ride for your stats

Wait do you guys mean to say that if I don’t get into the Med school I am still bound to Howard?

No you are not bound they will just give you admission to the undergrad as a consolation prize for not getting into the BS/MD.

So you are African-American and love Suju? I think you should put suju in your essay ^^
