hi, i have question about financial aid.

I have graduated high school in the United States.

Now, I go to community college in NJ.

My status is international student, but my parents have green card.

Is possible to apply financial aid from FAFSA??

my school said that I must have green card to apply.

However, my parents' accountant said that I can apply financial aid from FAFSA.

Anyone knows that i can apply financial aid?

If you do, can you tell me URL that i can find more information about it?

Thank you.

The FAFSA eligibility depends on your citizenship/green card status, not your parents.

Your school is correct. YOU, the student, must have the green card.

Why he or she saying that? See https://fafsa.ed.gov/help/fotw15a.htm

You can receive federal student aid if you are an eligible noncitizen. You must enter your eight or nine digit Alien Registration Number (ARN) on the FAFSA.

Ask your parents why you don’t have a green card, since they do. I don’t know how that all works but that seems weird to me if you’re a minor living with them.

Your accountant isn’t likely going to know the FAFSA rules, so his words mean nothing.

Edit…I see you’re not a minor. Maybe that’s why you didn’t get your GC when they did???

You can look at the FAFSA and TRY to fill it out. If you have some kind of status that lets you get around the lack of a green card, it is possible. You might want to ask the accountant what the heck to do when it asks for your green card or other info on the application and you don’t have any ID #s to fit the bill. There are certain rare status quos that could make you eligible, but I don’t remember them. I don’t want to say you absolutely are not eligible, on the off chance that you fall into one of those categories, but as a general rule, you need that green card.
