What do you think my chances are of getting into Yale, Brown or NYU? I already applied EA to Yale. Be nice, but honest. Hopefully those two can coincide.

First: a bit of context. I am not a typical candidate because my GPAs each year go as follows -- 2.7 freshman year, 3.3 sophomore, 4.6 junior year, and 4.7 this year so far. I know that my less-than-stellar 9th and 10th grade performances are not going to be looked favorably upon, but I'm hoping that they have a soft spot for late bloomers who have only begun to kick butt.

SAT I: 2110 SAT IIs: Lit 730 Span 740

No rankings at my school.

I am a really good dancer and have been actively involved in my school's program since the seventh grade. I have done charity shows as well as performed in the school's company. I also am trained in the circus arts (weird, I know), particularly in Spanish web and the flying trapeze. I am extremely passionate about all performing art forms. I am a Peer Support leader and a Peer Tutor in both Spanish and English. I love to write and have been published in the school's literary magazine. I helped found a community service project in which my friends and I collect unsold food from Farmer's Markets around L.A. then deliver it to battered womens' shelters. I got all 5's on three AP tests last year and I'm taking four (or five) more this year. I've gone abroad to several Spanish-speaking countries for language and community service work and am in the Spanish Language Honors Society. My essays were original but not showy and my teacher recs should be quite good.

I Think there's a chance at NYU but I'm not positive about Yale and Brown..you'll have to find more of a way to express yourself to them if you truly want a shot.

The essays i wrote i felt were very solid and told them a lot about me. I am taking AP English Lit, AP Spanish Lit, AP Statistics, AP Biology, and AP Physics B this year. If that matters

another thing I'm banking on besides the performing arts and leadership is my improvement, so hopefully that will distinguish me a bit. i really appreciate the feedback, thanks Elf.

that circus thing is your hook, and it's good you have one becuase you sort of need one. community service project is a plus too. but really bring out and emphasize your circus performing arts. If you get in, it will be because of that. Write an essay about it for sure. maybe even send a video clip on a cd
Sure you improved a lot, yeah that's great but so many other people have had the grades you got this year for all four years.
this is not meant to be belittling, but seeing other people who are less than gods apply kinda makes me wonder if i'm selling myself short by not applying to any ivies

I did write an essay about the circus thing... whew haha.

And that's not belittling at all; I couldn't agree more! I know i'm not the perfect candidate, but even the top schools are always emphasizing how they don't only let in "gods"... well those other students must be regular, interesting, and motivated people like us :-) good luck

also my deal with the major improvement is that it shows them that it doesn't necessarily come naturally to me but that i work extremely hard. Plus, they're not letting in a ninth-grader: they're letting in the person I have become
