High GPA makes up for lower SATs?

sorry if this idea has been beaten like a dead horse, but i'm moping right now. i have a rather high GPA 3.923 UW, not too sure on how to calculate the UC GPA though. i have quite a few H and APs but it seems the UC weighting makes it very low for some reason. if counting senior year i would have taken about 10 AP classes, my school only allows 6 classes a semester

Sophmore 1st/2nd semester=4.166/4.166
Junior 1st/2nd semester=4.63/4.83

the thing is my SATs are a little lower than i would like them to be 1930 -__-
but i have some awesome EC's like interning for a congressman, 200+hours of volunteer at a hospital

Teaching english and distributing educational materials to rural children in China, writing two books and getting them published, and translating the works of a rather well known chinese poet and got that published too, interviewed by the two largest magazines and newspapers in China. and some other various clubs and such

but the thing is my SATs are really low, i just don't like those tests. are they very detrimental to my chances at a good school like UCLA or CAL? i would take the test again but i just want to know. it might actually give me some piece of mind rather than making me mope all the time. i really hate the idea how a test judges everything about a person, i've done all this it would suck arse if i were to trip and fall because of a stupid test.

thanks for taking the time to read this. i appreciate it a lot.

ohh and if you couldn't tell by now, i'm asian so i also don't know if that makes this situation even worse for me. thanks again!! ^_^

UCLA: Slight Reach

Yes, your SAT I scores are detrimental to your chances at UCB/UCLA.
I think you should take the test until you crack 2050 (preferably 2100).

I would also say that it's a slight reach because of your SAT's, HOWEVER, I DO think that you can get away with low test scores. I was admitted with a 3.75UW, 4.0W GPA, 1860 SAT, 630, 680 SAT II... so just show personality through your essays, continue your EC's, and keep up the GPA. I think you'll be fine.

Will being a 1st generation, URM help with admission. In other words, will it give you a boost in admission points (specifically UCLA). Thanks in advance.

^nott at UCLA.

OP: i second that you can get away with lower test scores but dont count on it at all. i did, but i had like the highest GPA possible at my school.

well being first generation college student helps at any college admission. URM will not help for UCLA though. 1st generation helps if you are slightly below the average acceptee

Unless you're absolutely stuck on UCLA/UCB, I suggest applying to some of the other UCs as well. They're all good schools and your chances will be higher with some of the others. Make sure you apply to some real safeties as well. And yes, take the SAT again as well as the ACT.

Being a minority student might help you if the admissions committees feel that you overcame a challenge in life because of it. At least, I think this is true at UCLA.
