High overall SAT score, low individual math score

So I recently got my SAT scores and it was a 2210 but the bad part is that even though I scored near perfects on my reading and writing scores I got a lame 630 on my math score
:( Here comes the worst part... I'm applying as a computer engineer major!! Personally, I don't believe my SAT score is a good measure of how I am as a math student. I have taken the hardest math classes my school has to offer and have received A's in all of them. I am taking AP Calc BC right now and I feel really good about it. If it makes any difference my math teacher wrote one of my recommendation letters and I know he thinks highly of me as a math student. I'm FREAKING OUT right now :( I am taking the Math II subject test in December but chances are I'm not going to become a stellar test taker in the next few days. Do you guys have any suggestions or comments. Do you know any universities that have a decent engineering programs that will possibly admit me? BTW, I'm applying to all the UCs, USC, Cal Poly SLO&Pomona, San Diego Sate University, and Stanford. PLEASE HELP ME.

BUMP…Anybody?!

Well, that’s going to hurt you a ton at Stanford, and the higher-tier UCs unless you get an 800 on Math II. Even then, a 630 is too low for your major.

You should have taken the SAT earlier; November of senior year is not a good time to take it the first time.

Thank you for replying… I know… but it was not my first time taking the SAT :frowning: Actually this is my highest score… I know Stanford is out of the picture and probably the top tier UCs but what about UCI and Cal Poly SLO…maybe??

If 630 is your highest math score, then like you said Stanford and higher UCs are probably out of the picture. UCI isn’t, and nor is Cal Poly SLO, but the second is probably going to become a reach.

Yeah I figured :frowning: and by “second” do you mean Cal Poly SLO? If so, do you know about any other colleges that might accept me?

BUMP… Please help

I know what you mean about being good at math and getting a low SAT score. I got a 780 on math in SAT 1, but 680 on math 2 SAT2 subject test, mostly because I didn’t study. I am currently taking the most advanced course to ever be taught in a high school, abstract algebra, and it is much harder than calculus, which I took last year.

Math Level 2 tests higher level math than the SAT 1 math, but has a very big curve, which is why good math students almost always get high scores on that. Good math students sometimes get scores down to the 600s on math, but it’s usually an abnormality caused by careless errors so they can retake it and easily get an 800 or high 700s. However, if you have taken it multiple times and 630 is your highest score, that will call your math ability into serious doubt at the top colleges.
