if i plan to work within the investment banking and high end wall street firms what majors should i consider. Should i be in a mathematics program or a math intesive business major. or is it more necessary to be in regular finance major. I feel a strict mathmematics background would serve me beter in working within the financial sector.

Math would serve you better and take some individual finance/accounting courses.

where does school renkown come in. I know i can speak and discuss with the best and the brightest but i dont think my gpa will reflect that and thats not due to work ethic. Are there schools with less grade chasing that will give me an opening into this career. Lets say a specific departmetn in a school with recognized faculty that generate these kind of job prospects. through experience ive learned its more who you know than what you know and would love to go a place thats more about actual intellect rather than memorizing textbooks and chasing grades. Can this only be found in a Harvard setting?
