My SAT score is kinda low:
690 CR,
710 Writing,
760 Math,
Total 2160...

But my SAT II scores are:
800 Math 1
800 Math 2
800 Physics
800 Chemistry

I am an international student from Oman, studying in an Indian School. I am applying to most of the top universities like MIT, Stanford, Caltech, Harvard etc. for undergraduate admission. My major is engineering/mechanical engineering. Any chance for me?

PS: My converted GPA is 4.0 (unweighted), and my aggregate percentage is 95.6%...

dude with a 1450 M+CR dont even waste your time applying. On top of it you are international. Pardon me for being so harsh but ‘even’ Penn, Columbia, UMich, UCB are HIGH reaches for you. SAT 2s count for little. Stop flying so high. Apply to ONE of the schools you mentioned just for giggles.

Your SATs are great. And your “low” CR score only proves your diversity. My brother applied from the UAE and only sent his 730 math score and a TOEFL score for mechanical engineering and got into MIT.
Really. You have stellar grades, your scores are great and you are diverse. I think you have a great chance.

They are definitely NOT “high reaches” or a “waste of time.”
Good Luck!

lol 2160 isn’t low. It’s not the best, but it won’t keep you out of those schools you mentioned. I agree with AudreyH in that all of those 800s make you seem like a robot (but they’re amazing scores, there’s no doubt about that). I hope there are alumni in your area, otherwise if you don’t get to interview face-to-face, they might classify you as someone who just studies all day and has no ECs. Though I’m not assuming that about you.

Well, from i have seen on college confidential, my 2160 is not great… but its quite high for someone studying in an indian school (its the highest i know of in Oman… lol). My 800s in SAT II did not really come as a surprise to me… i felt they were really easy (must be becoz of my indian education, which is quite rigorous).

@RainbowSprinkles - Unfortunately, i live in Salalah, Oman, which is a small (unknown) town in the middle of nowhere… so no alumni to interview me… :(

@ejohhson - thank you for your encouragement… i have heard of people with SAT scores <2000 getting into MIT.

@chelsearox - well, i have applied to not-so-great colleges as well, you know. Georgia Tech granted me admission this November (Early Action), so i can still go there if i dont get into any other college…

2160 is a great score. No doubt score. But at the top universities they look more of your intellectual vitality than your stats.

“They look for impressive human beings not impressive statistics”.

So, I’ll not be surprised if you are rejected or accepted at those universities. Just write awesome essays. Harvard, MIT, Stanford and others are known for their holistic admissions. So you might be rejected with a perfect score and perfect gpa.

Congrats on your acceptance at Georgia Tech.!
