High SAT + Lousy GPA/Transcript

A guy I know - lousy transcript (3 D's, 5-6 C's, rest B's, maybe 2 A's in easier courses like Honors English 9 or Studio Art). GPA Probably around a 2.8ish - fantastic SAT 2200 (don't know the breakdown) - what would be a realistic list of schools he should be looking into?

I've always been fascinated with the whole "lazy genius" applicant thing.

This is more of a question of how important/influential an SAT score can be in college admissions, I suppose.

I think most colleges say that your grades and transcript matter more than your test scores in admissions. I think this means that, once they’ve already accepted all the people with high GPAs and test scores, they look at the high GPA/low score and low GPA/high score people. GPA would be still count for more than test scores, but this guy would probably have an advantage over some people with high GPAs and really low test scores, or people with slightly higher GPAs and lower test scores. How difficult his classes were would probably also be considered.

Most colleges have holistic admissions, though, so it’s not as quantitative as that.
