High School Awards

What kind of honor/distinction is "Who's Who among American High School Students" and how are kids selected?

It isn't an honor; it's a business. The publishers send invitations to many, many kids (I don't have the statistics) to get their names in a book in exchange for money. It's just a for-profit business and colleges don't consider it or the kids who put it on their applications favorably; save your $40 (or however much they want you to give them).

I've never heard of this book, if that says anything about this "honor." XD

I've seen the book in my library, but I've never looked at it. I've also never received any letters about it.

karajanhra is correct; don't fall for this scam.

It's like poetry.com--everyone wins as long as you pay. It's really not much of an honor; I wouldn't include it on an app.
