High School Class of 2014

Evan, you’re so right. Some people have fantastic ECs, and still complain that they aren’t good enough. Personally, I’m doing well EC wise. I just don’t think it’s enough… Unfortunately, our school doesn’t sponsor AMC math tests, USABO, or any other academic competitions (which I’m very interested in). Looks like I’ll have to find somewhere else to do them…

This year, my school’s val is going to UVA (she was rejected from Stanford). The sal is going to Columbia, and the fourth ranked is going to Princeton (also got into Harvard). Another highly ranked is going to Yale (she’s a URM). As you can see, it’s a pretty competitive school when it comes to college admissions.

I’m going to be studying in China. (:

Dude, I totally know what you guys mean. My ECs suck compared to a lot of people here. XD I do a lot of music & art ECs… but that’s about it. No community service, really. Whoops P:

@evanh, pleaaase link, man. I’d love to see that haha.

Oh yeah, as for what classes i enjoy - Math and science all the way…i spend an insane amount of time on math. I guess it pays off since im 2 grade levels ahead and in honors :)

EC’s: Math Team, Robotics Team, Asian Cultural Club, JETS, i teach at my local mosque (im muslim), i created the Muslim Awareness Club and i shadow a doctor at a hospital near where i live

Do you guys go to private or public school?

@evanh14: Totally link that, it sounds great
@StudiousMaximus: That sucks how your school doesn’t have any of those competitions. I got to the second round of the AMC this year and im doing USAMO and BO next year

Bunny, I lived in China for two years–my 6th and 7th grades. It was an amazing experience! I lived in Beijing, and attended ISB (the International School of Beijing)! The people there were so diverse–I loved every minute. The olympics were great too! What city are you headed to?

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1138780-chance-me-hyps.html

@bunny – public

@studiousmaximus – Yeah, it’s kinda crazy. Our school does a lot of that stuff. A guy in my class (and 3 of my academic classses) is doing USAJMO this year. Oh, someone from our school a couple years ago (ORM) turned down Columbia for Texas A&M…crazy, huh?

You guys all sound awesome! I want to apply for this program that would allow me to study in France for a summer  EC wise outside of sports I have youth group, girl scouts (-_-), I’m a member of a group that raises money and awareness for cancer research in memory of a student in our class, and I’m working on starting up this non profit with my mom that will send blankets to children in Eastern Europe where I’m from. I’m going to join debate and MUN next year. And we can’t join the honor societies yet… But I know I will be able to get into NHS, music, French, and well the rest of them lol.

@kzo Lucky! I really wish my school had them…

@StudiousMaximus – Seriously?! I’m going to Beijing! I won’t be studying at ISB, though, but at another school. That’s so cool!

@evanh14 - ha! that was a great thread. and when he tried to cover up his fail, he screwed up even more!

just a question - how many students are in your school?
Mine is public but still only has 1500 students

@jereve–the only one you could possibly join as a freshman is Latin Honor Society, so other than those of us in that honor society, no other freshman at my schools are in one. Also, have any of you taken the National Latin Exam? I took the Latin I exam (our school system starts late for language), and I got a 36/40, which got me a gold medal/summa cum laude, and I was curious of how others did.

I go to a public school in northern VA wwith over 2,000 people which is considered typical. We redistricted so next year I think we will have about 400 more -_-

Mine’s public and humongous. The freshman class alone has 800 people.

@evanh14 - I really wish i took Latin. Its not that i dont like spanish, its just that all the teachers at my school suck.
One Spanish teacher got pulled over a month ago for speeding on the wrong side of the road while drunk. Also, they searched his car and found cocaine and marijuana and three knives. He’s not much worse than the other Spanish teachers

@evan: Hahahahaha that was great. I took the National Latin Exam, but I haven’t received the results yet. I’m not very optimistic, though, as I didn’t even answer the last couple questions.

@bunny: Are you going to WAB (Western Academy of Beijing)? Haha they were our enemies… Or maybe another school?

My school has around 1900 kids. More next year because we’ll have a lot of military kids coming since the white house selected our school for something.

yeah my town is small-60k people and we have two high schools plus a lot of private schools all around so the kids get really spread out = small student populations

My school has around 1400. It used to be larger, but a new school took a large chunk of our students.
