High School Class of 2015

It wasn’t actually for 8th graders, it was for 9th graders, but 8th graders were encouraged to go.

They don’t have those at my school, even for the high schoolers. I guess most people know how to get information about colleges by themselves at small privates. For Harvard was it an alum or was it an admissions officer.

All five were admissions officers. The Harvard guy was hilarious, with a thick Boston accent. The first thing he said: "You’re going to ask, so I’ll say this. Pahk the cah in Hahvahd Yahd!

Since we place nearly 10-15 kids every year at the Ivies+MIT+Stanford, the admissions officers come here often.

only 10-15 total? we sent like 9 to Stanford at my school and we have 100-120 kids per grade.

You seriously send 9 to Stanford? You must live in Cali…
Well, we’re a large public and we have many Asian Americans (including me). Therefore, we’re slightly disadvantaged. We send nearly 200-300 kids to top LACs and other research Unis.

how is it a slight disadvantage to have many Asian Americans?

The effects of socioeconomic and racial AA.

Ya but I don’t think schools have an amount of students per school who they accept so that would mean that it’s a slight disadvantage for everyone.

Well, it relates to diversity. Generally, there are more Asian American applicants to top schools than white applicants, and the Asian Americans tend to be slightly more “qualified”.

If they’re more “qualified” then how come at the top colleges, there are more “under qualified” Caucasian people

…I was referring to my school’s applicant pool.

oh never mind then I thought you were talking about the entire applicant pool.

You offend easily, don’t you?

ya I kind of do

I’m not excited for 9th as we’re in the same building. But I am excited for 10th, which is the authentic high school experience.

NY city is awesome! I just came back from my class field trip. not many people went because it’s expensive. I love that city!

^When you were born in Queens and visit New York every other month, it’s not that exciting. I live in suburban New Jersey, I have a slight Jersey and New York accent.

OK, political, I bought NY HOT DOGs with NYorker’s accent. lol :D

My mom used to have a good friend in NY city. so we used to go visit often. but when I was 4, the friend’s family moved away. That was the last time I visited NY - 8 years ago. I don’t remember much. I really like the city. I want to go to a college close to either NY or Boston.

Plenty of colleges fit those criteria.
I come from a state that’s Newark, Trenton, Jersey City, and one giant suburb. We do put a lot of kids in top colleges though.
