Do you think the redesign will affect us? We are almost sophomores and will take the test junior year. They have just started to talk about it and it isn’t really all that public. Won’t it take some time to Change it? More than 1.5 years to implicate something that big? As well as change the PSAT practice test. How long did it take in 2005?

It will definitely take more than 1.5 years, considering the information given.

State law has prohibited public schools from giving summer work/vacation work. The only stuff that can be assigned is reading, unless you take advanced placement courses.

What state do you love in Meander?

*live, my bad

Love and live in Massachusetts. I have no idea why it’s a law, perhaps it’s only because of my current school’s policies.

For the SATs I mean. I hope not. I have a bunch of prep books too.

Where can you find the rules about summer work for each state? Because if it says in Georgia, students are not required to do any written summer work, I will not do it. Teachers are not above the law!

Well, I think in Massachusetts the school’s policy is their own decision. If you look up State Law of Education in Georgia, you can find information pertaining to summer work/work over holidays. I’m no lawyer though.

I think I’m going to take the SAT sophomore year and get it over with. I highly doubt I’ll have to re-take it.

Where can you find the rules about summer work for each state? Because if it says in Georgia, students are not required to do any written summer work, I will not do it. Teachers are not above the law!

That may put you in bad standing w/ your teacher.

Yeah, teachers can pull the “This is a dictatorship!” and be very annoying sometimes.

Teachers suck.

I could always mention the law anonymously. Emailing someone in higher authority than the teach or the principal.

I honestly think it depends on the school’s policy. AP and other accelerated courses require a packet, but generally no homework is allowed to be given over holiday breaks.

Hey guys, I already posted in this thread (i’m new!) but I wanted to say hi again. I’m really scared about my grades this year - they haven’t exactly been great. I have the mentality of an over achiever, but i’ve gone through so much personal stuff this year that it affected my study habits and grades majorly. do you think that colleges are going to judge based on freshman year? duke is my dream school but it doesn’t look like they accept students with B+ averages.
also another issue: my school doesn’t offer AP classes until junior year, but in order to be able to take an AP science, you have to get at least a B+ average for freshman year biology. Last quarter I was at a B+ but I just got a 3/20 on a quiz (its a really long story but the outline is that i did not expect to take it) so there goes my bio grade

anyone else wanna vent about classes and grades?

When you are stressing out, just think about the motto: yolo.

idk i just get so stressed because i go to a specialized hs where EVERYONE is so smart and i can’t compare and its just like ughuhreuhuhufhe

When you’re stressing out, just think about this: there’s always your state university. I mean this in the most sincere way. Since state universities are public, they usually try to educate whoever wants to be educated. I say this as a person whose state flagship has a ~90% acceptance rate.

Lots of my friends got into amazing schools but didn’t attend because of financial reasons and they’re thriving. Five years post college graduation, they’ve got pretty well paying jobs.

Don’t stress. Try not to get an ulcer. Be cool as the proverbial cucumber. :)

Well said. A B+ won’t be dangerous, especially during your freshmen year. Selective schools don’t guarantee success. There are plenty of cases in which those who attend lesser known schools excel greatly in life. I believe there’s a hot thread at the top of the CC forums on those cases.

Well, I suck at art class. I finished with an A-, extremely close to a B. that was my worst final grade this year. Although my highschool isn’t a very rigorous one.
