Hi everyone,
My school just had class registration for next year and I figured other schools would be doing the same.
You can post your class schedule and whatever else you feel like on this thread.
So… yeah
My schedule for next year is gonna be:
Honors Precalculus
Honors Biology
Honors Chemistry
Honors English 9
APUSH
Spanish 2
POE (2nd Project Lead The Way (PLTW) engineering class)
I’m actually class of 2018, but I’m taking very similar classes to you, so I’ll let you know how it is. So first, I’m not taking honors precalculus (I wish could’ve done that at my school), but I’ll be taking it next year. I’ve heard from my sophomore friends that it’s SUPER hard. I’m sure it depends on the teacher, but my school’s teacher has 1-2 kids with A’s per semester, about 4-5 with B’s, and the vast majority have C’s (As a student that has ever gotten a B in his life that scares me lol). But the teacher prepares his kids so well that there is a >90% pass rate on the Calc AB Exam, and about 40% get 5’s. That’s WAYYYY higher than the national average.
So honors biology is a breeze for me. If you’re good at science, you should be okay. However, most of my class has B’s (I have a 101% lol) But biology is really all about studying enough. If you put the work into it, you should be perfectly fine. I’m taking Honors Chemistry online through FLVS, but it’s pretty easy as long as you pay attention and study, too
Honors English 9 (although it’s 1 in my school) is okay. This varies on the school, but mine has A LOT of reading. We read a book per month on your own time. Then, there’s a test on the book. They can get pretty specific, so you need to be very familiar with the books. (we have about 5-10 questions on the tests that gives you a quote then asks who said it, which is the hardest part of the whole class in my opinion. I usually get most of them wrong lol) We also have grammar quizzes about every 4 weeks that are based on our daily grammar warm ups. The daily grammar warm ups are 1 sentence per week that on monday you do parts of speech, tuesday finding subject, predicate, types of verbs (transitive vs intransitive, etc), objects of prepositions, and other similar things. Wednesday is identifying clauses, and thursday is correcting grammar (by far the easiest day). Friday is diagramming the sentence, which is very hard and confusing at first, but once you get the hang of it, it’s actually pretty fun.
So I’m not taking APUSH or POE, but I’ve heard from my junior friends that APUSH is hard, but if you do all you’re memorization, you should be okay. The worst part of that class seems to be the essays.
So I love spanish 1 and 3.(I took spanish 2 last year, in 8th grade) In my opinion, they’re fun and manageable. But (at least in Florida) Spanish 2 is VERY hard because the curriculum is WAYYY overloaded. You have to learn a ton of stuff in so little time considering it’s a language class. And because you’re learning so much grammar, reading and speaking is generally neglected, which at least in my opinion, is the most important part of learning a language. Really, Spanish 2 isn’t about ACTUALLY learning how to become fluent in Spanish, it’s just about passing a test. But don’t let it discourage you from spanish 3 because it is super easy test wise, and you actually get to practice a lot of reading
So I’m not sure if you’re going to a new school for high school, but it’s a huge transition. As long as you’re committed to working hard, you’ll love it There is definitely a lot more work, but in my opinion, the freedom you get along with it awesome! You’ll love high school! Good luck and have lot of fun!
I’m in this class!
We aren’t actually picking our classes until next week, though.
Oh, my sister went to course registration herself last week! Those are some challenging classes! I’m a sophomore at the moment. Freshman year was okay for me, but the problem I see with most people is that they either push themselves too hard or they slack off too much that year. Personally, my main problem was that I procrastinated too much and barely studied for my AP tests. Try to stay organized and join lots of clubs to meet a lot of new students, I’m sure you guys will enjoy freshman year.
Thank you all so much for your invaluable advice!
Good luck in high school and beyond!
Dang! That’s quite a rigorous schedule for a freshman. Honors English 9 is actually enjoyable for me, but it takes time and hard work. The grammar is the WORST quarter, but if you practice you’ll be good. Writing the essays can be enjoyable if you like reading and writing. Although everyone resents the class in one way or another, it’s definitely has helped me grow as a writer! Good luck Have fun in school for the next 4.5 years… Freshman year could not move any slower for me.
Where, oh where have the 8th graders gone? Oh where, oh where can they be?
So… what’s your schedule for next year?
I’m here. Haha. My schedule obviously isn’t finalized, but I signed up for:
Semester 1
-Honors Communication Skills
-Honors American History I
-Honors Math II
-PE
Semester 2
-Honors Math III
-Honors Personal Finance
-Honors Biology
-Honors English I
We only get to pick one elective with three elective alternates. Our core teachers pick our ninth grade schedule so that we don’t get behind. Biology and American History I are 10th grade classes. Honors Personal Finance is my first choice for an elective.
My three alternatives for electives are:
-Beginning Theatre Arts
-Health Team Relations
-PLTW Intro to Engineering Design
I’ve never taken a PLTW class, so I’m nervous, just in case it gets picked for my elective
Well, right now it looks like my 9th grade schedule is:
AP Human Geography
Bio Honors
Geometry Honors
English I Honors
Spanish 3 Honors
I have a Band and Performing Arts Course as well. Also I think I am having Ethics next year.
This may not be permanent though as I may not be attending my current school.
Damn am I old.
@Hawkace Freshman year seems like it was so long ago
Class of '19 here! My schedule for next year:
Math Honors
French 2 ACP
Physics ACP
English ACP
World History ACP
Latin 2 ACP

(ACP stands for Advanced College Prep, which is the highest level. They do not offer AP/Honors courses to 9th graders, except in math.)
DONT DO DRUGS & STAY IN SCHOOL
I feel so old
I’ll be in this class I’m moving across the country this summer though, so my course selection will happen later, but I am guaranteed to take 2 AP classes, which is nice. Pleasure to meet all of you!
My (TENTATIVE) schedule
Algebra/Geometry II
AP Psychology
Honors English Literature
AP US Government
Honors Biology
Spanish I
Speech and Debate or Band. (Undecided)
I can’t wait to start high school. I can’t go on the eighth grade trip to the Outer Banks because of an OSS and an ISS…so yeah.
@IrrationalPepsi I’m taking IED right now and it is my favorite class. I’m planning on taking POE, AE, DE, and EDD as well. I’m really excited for it, but I’ve read on CC that unless you plan on taking the full sequence that class isn’t worth it so yeah.
